SMITHFIELD, VA (AP) -- Police conducting a drug investigation raided a house owned by Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick and found dozens of dogs, some injured and emaciated.

Police also found items associated with dog fighting.
State Police Sgt. D.S. Carr said Vick's relative, Davon Boddie, 26, lives in the house. Vick owns the property, but doesn't live there and wasn't present when a search warrant was executed in a drug investigation Wednesday night, Carr said.
Boddie was arrested outside a nightclub by Hampton police April 20 on charges of distribution of marijuana and possession with intent to distribute. The search warrant was executed by a multijurisdictional task force in a narcotics probe.
More than 60 dogs were found in three buildings. Some appeared malnourished, scarred and injured, officials said.
Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of The Humane Society of the United States, said the group has "heard troubling reports for some time that Michael Vick has been involved in organized dog fighting, and we fear that this investigation may validate that very disturbing allegation."
"We urge law enforcement to aggressively investigate this matter, and we further believe that anyone who harbors dogs for the purpose of fighting, deserves to be fully prosecuted for their crimes," Pacelle said in a statement. "Dog fighting is a barbaric activity that causes immense animal suffering and fosters violence in our communities. Our nation should have a zero tolerance policy for any form of staged animal fighting."
The Humane Society said dog fighting is illegal nationwide and a felony in 48 states, including both Virginia and Georgia.
The animal rights group PETA has asked Falcons owner Arthur Blank to suspend Vick pending the investigation and "to kick him off the team if it is found that dogs on Vick's property were neglected or used for fighting."
In a letter to Blank, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals said it was the second time it was writing to the owner about one of his players and allegations of cruelty to animals. On Feb. 23, the organization wrote to him about defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux's felony charges in Georgia stemming from the fatal beating of a dog.
Falcons spokesman Reggie Roberts said the team still was gathering information on the report and had no immediate comment.
A spokeswoman for Vick's foundation declined comment. Joel Segal, the quarterback's agent, and Larry Woodward, a Virginia attorney who has worked with both Vick and his younger brother, Marcus, didn't immediately return telephone messages seeking comment.
The probe at Vick's property is the latest in a serious of embarrassing incidents for the Atlanta quarterback.
He was named in a sordid lawsuit that accused him of knowingly infecting a woman with a sexually transmitted disease and using the alias "Ron Mexico" while seeking treatment. The case was settled out of court.
Last season, Vick flashed an obscene hand gesture to heckling Atlanta fans as he walked off the field following a dismal loss to New Orleans. He was fined $10,000 by the NFL and donated another $10,000 to charity.
In January, security officers at Miami International Airport seized a water bottle from Vick that they said smelled of marijuana and had a hidden compartment. Authorities later said there were no drugs in the bottle, and Vick explained that he used the secret compartment to carry jewelry.
Just this week, Vick came under more criticism when he failed to show for a lobbying appearance on Capitol Hill in support of increased funding for after-school programs. He missed a connecting flight in Atlanta and didn't turn up for a later flight.
Vick and two other former Virginia Tech stars -- Falcons cornerback DeAngelo Hall and former Buffalo Bills defensive end Bruce Smith -- are scheduled to join Hokies football coach Frank Beamer and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell in a predraft ceremony in New York on Saturday to honor the victims of the recent shooting at the Blacksburg school. Other athletes have been linked to dog fighting.

Shows that its not only the less fortunate who live in poor neighborhoods that get into this junk. I hope they prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law, and then some.

Unless Vick knew that was going on and just shrugged it off, I don't see how he's to be in trouble for this. It was his relative that had the dogs and the ring, just on his cousin's property. I'll be interested to see what turns up, but I bet this is just a case of reporters exploiting the famous connection.

Hope he goes to jail.
Guys like that don't go to jail for stuff like this. With his cash, I'm sure he'll have no problem "convincing" one of the relatives to step up and claim it was all their doing and swear that poor Michael had just no idea at all.

Vick has been on and off the news constantly over the past few years. There were months where everytime the news was on, he was getting arrested for drugs or guns, etc. He should have been in jail a long time ago.

Update:

UPDATE:

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) -Once the draft is completed this weekend, the Atlanta Falcons intend to find out if quarterback Michael Vick knew about an alleged dog-fighting ring at a home he owns in Virginia.
The organization made its first public comment on the case when general manager Rich McKay and coach Bobby Petrino met with the media after the Falcons selected Jamaal Anderson with their first-round pick Saturday.
McKay said he hasn't had time to study the case because of the draft.

I find it very hard to believe he wouldn't have known anything about a dog fighting ring and 60 dogs on his property. The guy sounds like scum. He's already been in trouble with the law for other things,.
I hope some dog loving footballs players break his knees.

 Wtf.. wouldn't this be obvious? The convo will go like this..

"Oh, hey, Vick, did ya know about the illegal dog-fighting that was going on at your house?"
"No sir, I sure didn't."
"Oh! Well, as long as you didn't know!"

But seriously... let's be willfully naive for a second. Say he didn't actually know there was a dog-fighting ring on his property. Shouldn't he be penalized for it anyhow, as well as whoever was running it? Not that I believe that's the case.

Vick knew all along. The director of the Humane Society publicly said that they have his heard his name mentioned a lot the past couple of years related to dog fighting. So, no doubt in my mind that didn't know what was going on with his own cousin and his own home!

(just wish the Humane Society would have done something about it 2 years ago when his name first came up!!!)

Poor, poor animals!!! Send Vick to the Dogs!!!!!!!!

More fingers point to Vick

Source: D. Orlando Ledbetter, Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Another report has surfaced that claims Falcons quarterback Michael Vick was involved in illegal dog fighting.

Fox Sports Radio's Chris Landry told a Tampa Bay radio station on Friday that he was told by former Falcons player Ray Buchanan that Vick is directly involved in dog fighting.

Attempts by the Journal-Constitution to reach Buchanan through a representative were unsuccessful. Landry could not be reached for comment.

Landry told the radio station that Buchanan told him at last month's NFL draft that Vick was definitely involved. "He tells me that Michael has been into this dog fighting for so long that ... he not only knew about, he is behind all of it, he's paying for all of it. ... Apparently, he's into it big time," Landry said.

I sure hope they suspend him!

I hope they BAN him for life. After the STD scandal, the hidden compartment weed/water bottle stuff assorted other stuff and now this?? This guy is a piece of **** with money. Let him fade away into oblivion, preferably in prison. I believe GA is a state where dog fighting is a felony, but just owning dogs with the intent to fight is not??? makes no sense to me, but I hope they can nail him on the fighting felony.

Who knows.

But I hate the HSUS with equal passion.

I agree Miakoda. Since when has the HSUS been known for telling the truth. Actually, since when has any organization or person for that matter been known for telling the absolute truth, like the media?.....

Sorry Amstaffer, what you just posted can not even be considered as proof of any sort. He said that he said=heresay. Even if the guy who made the statement stands up in court to say the same thing, which I doubt he will, it's still his word against the evidence available.

If he is guilty, by all means throw the book at him. But I will not jump on the "he's a dogfighter" bandwagon based on heresay. To many good people have been labeled "dogfighters" due to owning APBT's with little other definitive proof than what a responsible owner/breeder of these dogs would have. Pedigree's, antibiotics, syringes etc.....and don't forget the ever well known piece's of dogfighting paraphanelia....the treadmill and parting sticks. They now consider a tire hanging from a rope in your backyard a sign that you fight your dogs. No more swings for the kids I guess. Once the damage is done, all their dogs are dead and their reputation is ruined and it matters not that they were wrongly accused. Their life has changed with no compensation for their loss. The only difference is, unlike Vic, their loss just fades and everyone forgets, except them.

I'm not saying he is not involved, but for goodness sakes, he's already guilty before being proven guilty? And what if he really is innocent? No one in hell will believe he's innocent after all the assumptions that he's guilty.

To many people are tried and convicted in the news before they even get to court. But sensationalism sells papers and who cares if someone gets destroyed by the journalists along the way.
