Do you rinse?

I've never had a dishwasher that completely cleaned off stuff left on dishes or silverware. I always rinse and use a little scrubber quickly and then put them in the dishwasher. Why wash if you're just going to have the dishwasher wash? Well....because I don't always use soap when I rinse so the dishwasher sanitizes them and dries them for me. I do it right away after I use them so the stuff doesn't get more stuck. And yes....even tea cups. LOL. (you're not the only one) And I clean out my sink and polish the faucet afterward. I hate dried up water spots and want my chrome to shine. LOL. My Revereware pots with the copper bottoms get a quick scrub down with copper cleaner. So, I too, like my kitchen organized, clean and tidy. There's not a whole lot of space to work so I need to clean up as I go along when I'm cooking. So if I'm through with one or more pots or pans while something else is simmering on the stove, I'll wash those, dry and put away while I keep an eye on the stove.... (by hand because I don't think the dishwasher is good for some kinds of pots and pans, plus I'll probably need them again and they take up too much space in the dishwasher and I don't want to waste electricity by running the dishwasher more than necessary due to large items in there) lol. My water is free and I have lots of it. My hot water tank is propane and it doesn't use very much to make hot water, so, there's my logic. LOL. After each time I use the stove, I take off all the burner covers (it's a propane stove) and use Windex on the stove....hate any grease left on that or the hood. It just builds up if you don't get it right away. It actually takes less work to do it that way IMO than letting things pile up and letting food particles harden or grease build up on the stove. Plus, it's gross.

I despise dishwashers for the same reason... never seen one that gets them perfectly clean the first time. The one at my mom's always had to run a FEW times to get them clean. I HATED sorting through them to find a clean one. Usually I ended up handwashing the dirty dishes anyway after they still weren't clean.

For me, I wash dishes several times a day(I hate using disposable paper products, so we do go through quite a few dishes for a family our size compared to others that use disposable paper products) when there is only a small pile of 10 or so dishes. I don't use much water, dishes get clean the FIRST time. I too think washing them by hand is less work. That said, I DO like a dish washer for the function of a drying rack. I hate dishes to be piled up in the drying thing on the counter.. it'd be nice if they were hidden in the dishwasher to dry after they'd been handwashed.

Oh my dishwasher makes things shine and they come out just fine. But maybe that's because I get every food particle off first. Then it does it's thing to kill germs and dry. So, I still like having a dishwasher and don't mind giving them the once over first. I'm so use to it. I wouldn't like to have a drying rack on my counter either and if I did everything by hand, would wind up drying right then and there and putting them away like I do with other things I do by hand. At night, after I've cleaned up everything, sometimes if I use a cup or a bowl for something, I might leave it there with water in it until the next morning. And I leave my tea mug out on the counter much of the time because I use it so much. So I'm not that ocd.

I rinse because our dishwasher has not worked for the past 3 or 4 years, so I try to get everything rinsed off to make it easier for my mom when she washes them.

It's a habit now... even when I'm loading the dishwasher at work I rinse, and I have to remind myself that I don't need to get EVERYthing rinsed off.

Wellllllllll...I don't rinse. I don't always put them in the sink or dishwasher, either. My apartment needs serious help >.<

I rinse sometimes. But I never rinse cups, or bowls that had something like cereal or chicken noodle soup in it. I figure if I have to rinse everything first then I need a new dishwasher.

I never really have anything TO rinse.. We both eat very frenchly, which means instead of using a knife (unless of course it's something like a steak that needs cutting) we use a piece of bread to push things onto our forks. When you've finished your meal, you wipe round the plate with the afore mentioned piece of bread and eat it.. Et voila, the plate is more or less clean.

It's a habit I have picked up from eating with French people over the years, and of course Florent being french he's always done it.

Another way to pre-rinse is to let your dogs lick your plate. They'll get off every last crusty and crumb. When I was a kid, my brother and I would tease my Mom and let the dogs lick our plates after dinner. Then we'd pretend we were putting them back into the cupboard and actually put a plate into the cupboard. She's pretend like she believed us and act horrified.

It's weird. I am sort of a clean freak but don't think dogs licking plates is a bad thing. After all, they get washed with hot, soapy water and/or put in the dishwasher afterward.

Mine too........BUT, I don't give the dishwasher credit here, LOL There have been "tight budget" weeks where I've bought something other than Cascade Complete (yes, COMPLETE.......not just ANY Cascade, LOL) to save a few dollars and the difference is HUGE!

While all our dishes get a quick rinse to get rid of bigger stuff, my casserole dishes will sometimes have dried, baked on crusties around the edges and Cascade Complete gets them gone with no problem and everything comes out sparkling

I always rinse out of force of habit. Even if a cup just had tea or water in it.

I do the exact same thing.

Sometimes I even rinse my cup of water in between fill ups....

we have a dishwasher but we still rinse them off before they are put in there. If it's not run right away and you don't rinse, then the food can get all stuck to the dishes and not come off.

I use those little packet thingies that have the soap and rinse aid and whatever else all in one. They work like a charm lol

Then it is a crappy dishwasher. The better dishwashers wash clean first time. But rinsing is LAW with me. You DO NOT put crusty dishes in a dishwasher.

I chose yes... but actually the DOGS are our rinse cycle for our dinner plates lol.

but everything goes in the dishwasher and we NEVER come out with dishes that are still dirty after just one wash unless we fill it up WAY beyond capacity (which I have been known to do a time or two teehee)

I always HATED the way my mom did the dishes. she's just fill up a sink with hot hot water and put the dishes in there and leave them for a while and then go back later and add more hot water and then wash them but all the food stuffs would be floating around in the sink and that totally grosses me out lol
