I will be starting college, at the local community college here in Des Moines, in the beginning of January. Just for giggles, I checked the cost at the community college in Portland. OMG! It's almost double the price here!

A credit hour here: $125 for residents
Portland:$75 for residents

What are the costs in your area?

Langara College in Vancouver is $83 per credit FOR RESIDENTS. I think other people pay like 2-3x that; it's a lot more anyways.

For 10 credits/3 courses this is the breakdown:

BIOL-55051 Biol Material Fee
$47.75

Building Legacy Fund
$31.80

Student Union Basic Fees
$14.44

Student Union Fees
$35.30

Tuition Fees - Regular Student
$832.50

U-Pass
$120.00

Net Semester Balance
$1,081.79

I don't know what the student union or the legacy blah blah fund does. And they automatically charge you for insurance and you have to submit proof of your own coverage to omit yourself, which was annoying. Like since when does my school dictate that I have dental coverage? lol but yes.

$125 for community college, WOW... UBC, which is a good university (ranked 44 in the world by usnews), is $150 for a resident.

Umm.. the public community college in Miami..
COST PER TERM (12 CREDITS) is $1,138.80
so thats about $94 per credit for "in area"

Out of area students is: $4140.00 per term.

I have never been there.. but I know a lot of people go there and a few of my friends took a course or two there in high school.

Its Miami.. and compared to most community colleges it is really pretty, lots of new technology etc.. so I think its why the price is a bit higher than average

Lol then again.. UCONN is $40,000 for out of state! lol so compared to that... its still a pretty **** good deal!

It's $102 for a half credit/hour.

$205/hr for residents if you're getting a degree.
bumps up to $300 for resident non-degree.

Northern Virginia Community College: $117/credit in state, $296/credit out of state
George Mason University (cheapest public university in the state): $8500/year in state, $25000/year out of state

California had awesome community college costs. It was $17 per credit for residents when I took classes at SBCC, but it was waived for high school students so I took a half dozen classes for free. Probably contributes to part of the reason the state is in debt though.
