I'm guessing the answer is, if you have to ask then yes. I like the dog though, and even though flock guardians are not as friendly as I'd like (correct me if I'm wrong) It suits the farm and business I'm about to start.

It really depends on the area you're trying to guard vs what kind of problem. I do know a couple who uses centrals over 20+ acre pens to guard sheep in Montana from coyotes, cats, wolves and bears. Most people however don't need a hammer to swat a fly.

There are LOTS of LSG breeds to pick from and customize to what you need in way of predator and human aggression.

It's hard to answer your question without knowing:

What kind of farm business are you about to start?
And, what sort of experience do you have owning/training dogs, particularly LBG?

I think in today's world, in America, there are very very few people who NEED a Ovtcharka to do their farm work, lots of other breeds are a better fit for most people.

Oh brother. I don't want to say anything inflammatory, but I honestly don't think you have enough experience. And you had a beaceroun (SP) several years ago, I think that is enough dog.

All excellent replies:)
For farm work general coyote issues and areas that have enough food supply for the bears and mountain lions no need for a CAO/CAS/Alabai. OR the CO

I dont know the person asking to make judgments on personal knowledge.

Each LGD breed has a different in standard requirement.
Some of these new to US breeds are more of a race of dogs vs a purebred like a Greay PRY today. SO variances in temperament are high depending what the breed wants.

Some breeders are breeding OUT the strong distrust of strangers for show dogs.
Some are breeding figthing dogs that are human friendly but dog insane.
Some are breeding farm family dogs that with socialization and proper selection of breeding has dogs that can be friendly to strangers that are in your presence that you introduce.

They should not be dog aggressive or people aggressive .
They are territory aggressive - protective - defensive.
Which means my owner where ever she is is MINE dont mess with her.
My sheep, my cats, My house, My yard!
Dont mean they wont kill a stray cat that tresspasses they will
Its their territory and all that come must be intro into the pack by the owner.
No reaching over the fence to come into the yard with the same dog that kissed you
yesteraday when you visited the owner.

Here is one being tested notice no bite first, they are not insane and simply want the bad guy to go away.

No one should agiate these dogs untill they are mature which can be years and then pass a test for stability this dog passed a CGN.

We also have dogs that do rally well some are aloof some are friendly.
But it took work to get them that way.

ASD's and Great Prys are better bet as working LGDS.
Established breeders with great backgrounds.
But most breed out the human protection drive due to liablity
