Don't breed her on the first heat. She isn't mature enough.

I'll leave the rest of this to the breeders on the forum.

Why do you want to breed?
Are you a registered breeder? Have a prefix?
What have your dogs acheived?

And no, I don't think you should breed on the first heat.

Never, ever. Chances are your dog will be 6-12months old. That is WAY to young. You need to wait untill she is at LEAST 2years old. With either a Championship title or working titles behind her. Not to mention the health testing apropreat to your breed.

If you wanted a tri-factored puppy and you want one very bad, why did you not buy a tri-factored puppy instead of buying a sable bitch..?
I'm so confused.

I has tri factored sheltie! Beanie is jealous of Trey's tri-factoredness. ;)

I have some suspicions about the legitimacy of this post based on the OP's other post.

My suspicions are based on the fact the OP wants to bake her dog :) I prefer mine to be unbreaded.

I'm beginning to wonder too ! If legit , never the first heat . Testing can't be complete until 2 yrs old . So consider if you want a litter at 68 yrs. old . It's a lot of work to do it right ....and expensive !

thank all for fast reply .go it i will wait in late 2009 to bread her .now if you cant show me a small breader that know if they have tri factored puppy .well i don't know any .because about 90&of them only breed for money .they don't even bother to go and reed about all the color mix there is in sheltie .i have been reading every day about sheltie breed for a year now and still do not know much .but i know to get get tri factored with a tri like my male i need a pure for sable for that ..but one example the breeder i did buy my female in july was 275 mile from my place .now do remember i was looking for a pure for sable female and i did know that that breeder had them .so i did drive down there .i shoose my female gave them 100 depot on it .she was 5 weeks .that was on fri then on wed he call and said that my female was ready to go .[5 1/2 weeks] ho boy .so did pick her up .she was heatting solid food really good .now i had to pay for all the shot for her etc etc .then i notice that they did not remove the dew claw .now at 22 week the vet said that are really deep in the nerve .what ever you call it .sorry am french and i cant find all the word i need to explain my self good here .now the vet is tell me that he never saw a sheltie looking like her .at 22 weeks well 22 pounds .her body is really long she is really tall .and her nose is a little to long .and no hair yet lol .ha well cant win them all .as to find a breeder you will to find a bredder that as been had it for a long time to know that he need a tri and a pure for sable to produce them .so for the back ward bredder they don't know that .now i will only breed her for one litter one.then i will get her fix .and get her dew claw remove that poor thing .it look like snow shoe .any way now at 22 weeks she is bigger then my male .

Hey english is my first language and I still have issues explaining myself :D

Your posts are hard to read. If possible can you put the periods at the end of the sentence and not the beginning of the next one? Capitals would go a long way to making it easier as well, as would some paragraph breaks.

That said..

Did you buy your pup from a good breeder? Did you get papers, and a health guarantee? Are the parents health checked? Does the breeder have a web site?

You might have been taken for a ride and sold a non pure bred dog as a purebred. Where are you that its hard to find a good pup that you want?

Wait. You talk about breeders only breeding for money - and yet you are only breeding so you can have a particular colour.
You just said you have a 22 week old sheltie who is 22 pounds, long in the body, and long in the face.
This dog should not be bred even once. She is going to be HORRIBLY out of standard. There are enough out of standard shelties being bred without you adding to the problem.

Fix this dog and forget about breeding just so you can get whatever precious colour you want. Love your dog for your dog.

Since you say you're breeding this litter to get a puppy of a certain color, it would make more sense to just buy one than go through all of the routine expenses (and possible emergency expenses if something goes wrong) of whelping a litter.

Here's a good place to look for breeders: http://www.assa.org/breeders.html

There are lots of great sheltie breeders in Ontario. I dont' think any of them advertise on kijiji.

I think you got swindled. I would spay her and just enjoy her.

I don't think ANYONE should be breeding without health tests. Do you know what issues shelties have?

Any person breeding 2 CKC registered dogs (of the same breed) together will have registerable pups. They could be the ugliest, nastiest, most diseased ridded dogs.. but they would be papered.

When looking for breeding stock you need to look for more than just colour of dog and papers. There are hundreds of dogs needing homes in ontario, why add to the problem? Now if you do get a fantastic dog with a great temperment and from healthy checked lines and you want to breed, then that is different.

So again just spay your girl and enjoy her as she is :)
