I love the smooth coats, and always have. I was planning on a smoothie until Eve's breeder found me, and I loved everything about the litter except for coat.

The thing about BCs is the shedding and upkeep is almost exactly the same between rough and smooth coats. The only thing I do besides brush Eve once a month is trim the fur on her feet. Fuzzy, overgrown feets are a pet peeve of mine on my dogs (and are the reason I could never own a Cavalier!) but their feet don't even NEED trimming.

Dakota has a massive coat, I can't really capture it well in pictures, but it's very thick and overdone, ideal for the show ring but impractical for everyday life. He gets mats in his butt/tail and behind his ears if he's not brushed a couple times a week. Dash and Eve have more moderate coats that honesstly require no upkeep.

Rory's coat is VERY easy to maintain, but the shedding is terrible. It's the same way with short coats as well, though.

Oh, and he LOVES the snow. He's definitely the happiest when it's cold outside!

He can be quite demanding at times:

He's festive for the holidays:

Jessie, was Rory older when you got him? I know he's a breeder pup but it seems like I missed his "baby puppyhood" if you got him at a young age. I took a pretty long hiatus from Chaz, but still!

I've had him since he was 5 months old, so you didn't miss anything. lol.

Here are some pictures of him in the super awkward stage in his first home:

Bandit sheds so freaking much. It's my only issue with the breed but I love the look of the rough coats. I always have. Mind you a smooth dog is just as stunning. I think it's because m y first dog was a Sheltie so I am partial to the poof.

Bandit gets matts on his butt and ears if he isn't brushed but he doesn't need to be brushed very often. I usually brush him twice a week and only his butt really, but I could get away with doing it twice a month because I often just shave off his butt hair. *hides*

My first BC was a rough coat... I hated the mats behind his ears, the toe floof and the shedding. It's smooth coat or nothing from now on!

Yeah I guess the hair could turn you off for sure! I do not want two rough coated dogs in my home. It'd be too much up keep with brushing but I will happily take care of one. I actually brush Bandit when I am stressed and it calms me down. He does lay perfectly still though. It'd add more stress if he wasn't so good about it.

When Rory was younger, his coat was like Eve's... more medium than rough. His coat is SO thick now. He has major feathering on his legs and huge fluffy pants.

I'm also LOVING all of these pictures! PLEASE keep them coming.

Oh yeah, Eve with that fish is major win!

I have serious collie want right now. I'm thinking BC puppy in apartment is bad idea...and I'm pretty sure Frodo would have a coronary.

Since mixes can play...

Cora, Border Collie/Lab mix. She's my family's new dog, although I am apparently in charge of training her before I move out this summer. Lucky me. LOL I've been running around like a chicken with my head cut off for quite some time now, but it just hit me that I have a puppy (granted, an older puppy) that I get to play and work with. So hopefully we'll be making some strides on her behavior rather soon. Before we got her she had no training and no socialization and was either in a crate or in a 6' privacy fenced yard, and since my parents have had her she's just been a crazy farm dog running around like a mad thing. So I'll have my work cut out for me, I think, but it'll be fun.

Cora is approximately ten months old, she stands around 18" or so, and weighs probably around 40-45 pounds. She's almost doubled in size since we first got her, but she's still all legs!

She loves to play ball and the wubba is her favorite toy ever. Unfortunately, she doesn't really understand the concept of fetch and would much rather just run around in circles with the toy and play with herself while I'll look at her with interest. If I stop watching her, she stops playing. Frisbees scare the living snot out of her.

She shows way too much interest in the neighborhood livestock - I'm actually worried that if she gets loose she might run them. Hopefully we never have to find out the answer to that theory.

She's athletic, very smart, loves to run and chase things, loves to BOUNCE, and shows her Lab side when she plunges in to every body of water we come across. Her leash manners are steadily improving - no longer need the prong to stop her from choking herself. She's finally starting to understand a few more commands, now, and pay closer attention to me.

First day home:

November:

Last month, I think, before a walk:

I really need to get new pictures of her. She looks so much more mature now. And she finally isn't wearing that ratty collar anymore.

I LOOOOOOVE that picture of Dash. I remember the first time I ever saw it I practically fell out of my chair laughing.

It's also something Ozzy would do :p

I got to talk baby to Border Collie puppies today. Oh, puppies. <3. So fun, full of joy, and SO excited to see people. I haven't really had any desire for a puppy. That kind of changed a slight bit today. *melting slowly*

The people who run the local BC rescue have the cutest black and white pap. People are forever thinking he's a BC puppy. His name is even similar to Romeo, its Rodeo. To bad they are both boys.... :rofl1: minature BCs FTW lol

Name: Corny
Colour: Australian Red
Date of Birth: 16.05.2011
Height: About 45cm
Weight: I haven't weighed her in a while, but last time I did 17kg

I plan to devote most of her to agility, dogdance, and obedience. As I am more into sporting than working. Though, might try herding one day.

Here she is from newborn until now:
