He's merle and sport bred and plays ball. I don't think they could think any worse of me.
How do you sleep at night knowing there are people in the world who disapprove of your dog selection? :p

I love his ears up! He looks so much more grown up :)

Oh, and our collie had prick ears too...maybe I'm just used to it but I think they were pretty cute on him.

He's freaking adorable either way! I like prick ears on bcs but after trying to tape Nikkie's and failing I think I'll just let them go when I get my puppy.

It's hard, let me tell you. And then I went and picked a SECOND merle dog over a black and white dog. I shouldn't be allowed near real Border Collie people.

LOVE the up ears! Finn's are up and I think they are adorable!

Limit's went up...and now one is half-flopped like his Daddy's :( I am thinking about doing something to get them back up since I want to show him...what'd you do for your pup??

LOL

Ok maybe it's just THAT collie that looks dorky with prick ears. They're really narrow on him too which doesn't help.

Bah. Real Border Collie People would have heart attacks over what I saw at the local gas station. Ranch truck, four genuine working BCs (as in, "we work sheep full-time for a living"), and three were merle.

Clearly you were hallucinating.

I actually really like the upped ears too! He is just adorable with them! :)

Can someone explain gluing to me though? I don't think I've ever seen it done. How is it done, is more so what I am asking. :p

With Bean, he just has Breathe-Right strips glued on the inside of each ear to give them the support they need to stand. Hopefully they'll learn to stand on their own sooner rather than later :p

I'm a total newb at this.

Why don't 'real' BC people like Merle BCs?
Not to go too OT but...

My understanding is that it's partially because sport-bred dogs have a much higher % of merle, as a group, so when they see merle they think sport-bred. And for-sport breeding is reprehensible and undermining BCs as a working-only dog and the dogs produced aren't actually BCs, by their way of thinking.

Another reason, is that since merle X merle is a dangerous combination they consider merle a gene that is there just for aesthetics, contributes no benefit to the dog, and is potentially harmful to the dog. Therefore if it happens it happens but it should not be sought out nor bred unless the dog is exceptional, and then never to another merle of course.

Not saying the above does or does not reflect my own views since I don't want to derail further...just trying to answer the question itself.
