Are your dogs potty trained? Be honest

So, how reliable are your dogs with their potty training? How long did it take to get them to the point where you don't have to constantly worry about an accident?

Rylie (4) is 100% potty trained... I haven't seen her have an accident for a long time. She was pretty good from the beginning.

She has issues holding it if she's in a crate for extended periods of time (which she never is, anyway... she has access to a potty pad when we're not home).

Chloe (almost 4) is also what I'd call completely potty trained. She was a very difficult puppy to potty train... up until she was probably 2 years old she'd have occasional accidents in the house. We went through a lot of Nature's Miracle with her.

Tucker (1) was a breeze to potty train... his breeder had him started out on puppy pads, and he rarely has any accidents. I'd say he's 100%.

He's occassionally peed in bed... he'll whine in the middle of the night to pee, and we've learned to sleep with our ears open. He hasn't peed in bed for months now, though.

Rory (10 months) occasionally has accidents... he's gotten much better lately. When he's outside, we have to make sure he poops and pees, otherwise he'll poop in the house. To be honest, he hasn't pooped or peed in the house for at least a month or so.

100 hundred percent. Poor VIctor was freezing when he went out this morning. He had to stand there so long because he had waited. He ran from his bush and smacked right into my knee cap in his hast to get inside. ONe thing I do well is house train.

I dont' think Ill counts. Mary had a couple accidents towards the end. Trying to rise up from her bed and it just poured out of her. THat doens't count. She was house trained at 8 weeks. It took 16 years for her to have this happen.

I'd say that being ill doesn't count.

Lilly (our childhood dalmatian) was 100000% potty trained up until her last couple of years. She was on medicine for incontinence and had kidney issues.

I wouldn't say that Frodo is completely housebroken, he's made up his own bathroom rules and as long as we stick to the routine we have now, he doesn't go to the bathroom inside.

-If both my mom and I work and are going to be gone for more than four hours he is crated (which I don't feel bad at all about as it's large enough for him to throw a frat party and has more comfy cushioning than anything else in the house), or he'll go on the floor. But if we're home he'll go all day and not ask to go out
-If I fall asleep in the living room at night he'll go on the floor, but if we're in my bedroom he is fine

Like I said, he's special and makes up his own rules. Easy enough to accommodate and he hasn't had an accident in months, I'll pick my battles, lol

We only had two dogs that were perfectly potty trained. Marq and Misha. Marq came potty trained, and Misha was the youngest. My sister and I were.. 15? when my sister got her, and I potty trained her. (Pepper had "cancer", vet said she only had so many months to live, sister was depressed, so I raised her puppy for a while because she was too depressed to do so). The rest of the dogs were puppies when I was really too young to take on the full responsibility of potty training. My mom allowed them to go in the house, so none of the cockers were fully potty trained.

That said, Cocoa was partially potty trained. When she lived here for a few weeks, she only ever had one accident, and that was Dustin's grandma's fault. As long as she was taken out, she never so much as sniffed anywhere like she might go potty. I think because we started out right away with crate training and taking her out so often, that she got the idea really fast.

Muffin hasn't had an accident(barring illness) since.... hmmmm.... maybe last april/mayish? Now, that's the last accident he's had. I just started allowing him to be alone a few months ago... It was HORRIBLE the first few months of potty training though. He was already about 5 months and I think he was just kept in a crate the entire time and left to sit in his own poop/pee because he seemed to have no blatter control and no problem getting covered in it. There were days I was almost ready to give up!!!(ok not really, but def very frustrated!).

I would consider him 100% potty trained because there are some mornings where's he's litterally RAN outside when I opened the door, went to his potty tree, and stood there peeing for a LONG time with an obviously look of relief on his face. He's not crated at night, so if he wasn't house broken I would sooooo see him peeing in the house on one of those occassions.

I still watch him pretty closely(esp when he's sniffing), but that's more that I'm watching him to make sure he doesn't mark. He hasn't tried to mark AT ALL in the house... so I think we're good... but well, I've heard of intact dogs starting to mark around the 2 year mark... so, I'll still be keeping my eye on him.

Yes. I don't think either has had an accident in the house in... a long, long time. But, at 11.5, Buzz has FINALLY started telling me he has to go outside rather than just waiting!

Rory's getting really good about going to the back door and barking.

Buuut he's sneaky. He'll get dramatic with his whining so I'll think he really has to pee... but as soon as he gets outside he grabs a frisbee. lol.

Kharma and Bimmer are 100%, but I take no credit as neither of them (nor Buffy, for that matter, and Shiva just took having to sleep in the laundry room for three nights), as they didn't have to be trained, they just knew, even though they weren't house dogs prior to coming to live with me.

Tallulah . . . *sigh* I really need to figure out how to get through to her. She will do really well for awhile, then . . . :wall: I doubt, because of the parvo, that she'll ever be 100% on the poops, but thank heavens for those tidy little EVO poops that can be picked up with a couple of pieces of toilet paper.

OT, but BUZZ IS 11?!

Holy moly, he looks good for 11!
Buzz says thanks! (and hai!)

Bailey, however, holds it unless it's urgent (ill). She MAY venture towards the door if she REALLY. HAS. TO. GO. but otherwise she waits for someone to let her out.

Phoebe is 100% plus 10, LOL...........I can't even remember how many YEARS it's been since she had any sort of "mess" in the house, not even vomiting. She will ask (by coming and staring at you until you get the message) to go out for that too if she happens to want/need hurk something up, LOL She's never had a crate, never needed one...........She is a very orderly, consistent girl...........it's who she is and I am ever so thankful, LOL

Orson is normally 100% potty trained as well..........BUT..........He averages about 2 poops in the house per year. These "poops" occur when it's RAINING heavily outside  He'll rush out to pee and hold the poop as long as dogly possible. If I attempt to FORCE him to stay out until he poops, he just goes in the dog house and pokes his head out to stare at me *sigh* Then of course by the time he WANTS to go out and poop, he's waited too long and don't always make it, LOL, like I said, it averages about twice a year.

I would trust Fudge and Taz and Ozzy 100%.
Gabby i'm not sure about yet although she hasn't had an accident in the house yet and hopefully never will :)
Scamp I don't trust at all. He has SA so has to be crated when we leave otherwise he goes on my parents bed. He is crated at night as well although on Sunday night i did let him sleep in my bed which he peed in in the middle of the night :yikes:

lets see

charlie: 100% infact he gets realy upset if hes not feeling good and has an "accident" but i dont count illness realy as an accident.

Vixie: 98% shes pad and outside trained and her only "accidents" are when she figures "my front feet are on the mat, so my back must be too" and she hits the edge.

Dodger: 98% same as vixie, only his "accidents" come in the form of occasional marking.

rosie: 95% she wont use the pads, and will usually hold it, however occasionally overnight she wont and doesnt wake anyone up to let them know she needs to go.
its mabe once a month or so.

Ruby: 100% she will hold it till almost bursting

Jasper: 90% hes my "problem child" 1: if its raining/cold he doesnt like to stay out long enough to "finnish" and sometimes its literally too cold to force him to stay out (to the point where his ears feel like icicles...)
hes also a marker...
he wears a belly band pretty much 24/7 currently because nothing i do will stop him, i think its because theres soo many other dogs in the house...
ive tried tethering him to me, ive tried taking him out frequently (like every 15 mins at one point), ive tried crating, belly bands and correcting when he even looks like hes thinking about raising his leg has made for "dry bands" but hes still not reliable without it...

My adults are 100% and probably were from 10-12 weeks. No accidents unless they weren't given ample opportunity (ie I had to work late and they didn't get out on time). The puppy I have now is 12 weeks old and is awesome about asking to go out, but if you miss your cue, she will pee by the door.

Xena is 100000000% potty trained. She simply doesn't even look to go in the house. She rings the sleigh bell that's tied to the doorknob with a shoestring when she has to go out.
