This may be a silly question, we've owned intact females my entire life but I've never taken much notice as to when they first came into heat.

Now about 6 weeks ago Quinn got a weird little lump just on top of her "bits", it looked slightly swollen and almost like the hair was thinning on it, I thought it looked a bit weird so I vetted her about it just as a general check and he said it looked like she would come in any day now.
I watched her, she got a bit flirty with Mac and I waited for it... then nothing. She's gotten flirty a few times over the last few months then... nothing.

She turns 12 months old in a week and I'm just wondering when its going to arrive. If I remember correctly I think Mac was atleast 14 months old before her first heat but hers have always been out.

Also Quinn was born from an oops litter conceived during a silent heat so I'm wondering if that might affect her?

So others with intact females, when did they first come in and should I be worried if she doesn't soon?

My little bitch Mirada came in 3 days before her first birthday. If she was whelped from a mother with silent heats, she, too could have silent heats.

Anytime from 9 months to a year and a half is normal. First heats can be tricky too, as in they can be fairly silent and come on quickly.

Varies...Mira didn't show any swelling at all til the morning she started. By the time I got home from work she was definitely in heat. Showed slight passing behavioral differences beforehand but that's it.

She's 22 months old now and this is her first heat. Not terribly unusual for the breed/lines but later than most.

If her mom had silent heats I would be very cautious and assume your girl does too until proven otherwise.

I know some dogs that have had their first heat around 21 months. I wouldn't worry about it too much

I won't stress too much about it then.
