just a reminder that even with good credentials in whatever you deem important a breeder can still be totally horrible. Just because someone shows or works their dogs and even titles them doesn't mean they're reputable.
Finding the "right" breeder is tough. but this is a good reminder that its about MORE than lines and awards, you really have to take a look at the person raising these animals and how they are treated.
It's really sooo NOT about "show" v. "working".
It's about "proper treatment" v. "neglectful abuse".
The really sad part is whether one is a show or working lines aficionado ... amount of titles is the very criteria many people use when choosing a breeder to buy from, whether those titles are for showing or working. In either, more titles is often thought to automatically mean a "good" breeder ... as in the common question "But what are they doing with their dogs?" ... with more titles assumed to automatically equal "reputable breeder".
But in either, number of titles may be sought mainly for owner/breeder/handler ego more than anything to further the breed.
The two sad examples posted show that a better question is how are the dogs being treated ... the entire stock, not just that owner/breeder/handler's "stars", i.e. those particular dogs that end up winning the show or working titles.
RIP to those poor Mastiffs and sad Collies ... they were treated no better than puppy mill dogs.
