You know, Puck, that would be an excellent post - without all the "lib" references. Haven't you noticed that BOTH sides of that political coin are doing the exact same thing? Just using different buzzwords?

Sorry I did not meet your standard. Who died and made you judge? ;)

:)

Yeah, both sides are hosed. But frankly, I doubt there are any REAL conservatives left anymore. By that I means the kind who REALLY want the government out of our lives. "Lib" to me means just that... It has nothing to do with Democrat or Republican, etc...

Basically in "puck-ese", lib means 'I know better for you than you do'.

Does that help? :)

That helps a lot, Puck :D

Strange how our language mutates. Ever stop and think that the men who dreamed up that Constitution were the Liberals of their day? ;)
In a way, I suppose so. But the big (well, HUGE) difference was they were trying to free us from tyranny, not to create it. They feared the power of government and did as much as possible to limit it in every way. ALL of our current crop of clowns want to expand it.

James Madison, Thomas Paine, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, et all... While certainly imperfect examples of humanity at least realized that true individual liberty was the only way for a people to excel. Too bad we have strayed so, so far from that path. No all people can say is, "so and so should have done this and so and so should have done that...." and the famous "THEY should do this... and THEY should do that." Drives me bonkers. LOL When will people realize that those "THEY" people are the problem?

Couldn't agree with you more, Puck. That sounded downright Buckshot-ish ;)
<melt>

You are comparing me to the great...BS? (He REALLY needs new initials.)

I am a true libertarian at heart. Me thinks the part that vexes me from most other libertarians is my faith. A lot of libertarians shun faith as they see it as just another means of control. I see it as the most powerful force of REAL freedom on Earth.

But faith aside, I will be on the side of FREEDOM when the next revolution happens. That means I will most likely have to go against a oath I took, many years ago. The end result will be well worth the price I may have to pay. REAL freedom for my precious Hannah. Free of the chains of government.

Wow, Puck, you sure are angry. :lol-sign:

Place blame? I don't need to, it's already there.

You don't know anything about me or what I do or what kinds of kids I work with or how I advocate for them and help change their worlds.

With that, I'll leave you to your anger... hope it does some good for you.

Well, I was going to make a remark about how our culture right now discourages exactly the sort of experiences that make mature adults . . .however, since we've gone off into political name calling, I think I'll just not give any examples, and simply say . . . I don't think this is a political problem. Its a cultural one.

If you are referring to the oath you took in the service, it wont be a violation of it to topple this cart, it is your (and my) duty.

the kid probably stole the matches because he knew he wasn't allowed to play with them.... hence why he was up in the brush.... HIDING. I wasn't allowed to play with matches.... but I sure wanted to try every chance I got lol.... luckily I didn't start any fires by accident.

I feel bad for everyone involved. Yes perhaps the parents should have kept the kid on a leash and then nothing would ever happen.... but sometimes good parents are not enough to prevent a kid from being curious. I'm sure you have ALL been guilty of playing with something you shoudln't have when you were kids when your parents didn't know.... and I will bet dollars to donuts YOUR kids have done the same thing.... you just might not have found out about it.

but to assume these parents are just some ignorant fools who don't care for their child is well.... a little asinine. I sure hope none of you have to find out the hard way that what you tell your children to do and what they do when you turn your back for a second (because let's face it.... you cannot have them under your thumb 24/7 even if you think you can) are two totally different things. I hope you are not on the receiving end of such judgement by a bunch of people who know nothing about you. And I will be sure not to let any of you know when Hannah grows up and makes a mistake.... I don't want to be publicly stoned for being an incompetent parent

LOL... Angry? Not in the least. Frankly, I am insulted that you can even accuse me of that.

Oh, and along the same line... You THINK you know me, but you have not a clue. Accusing me of being angry proves that.

I do feel for the kid.

A 7 yr old, or a 10 yr old won't have possibly comprehended the full extent of what playing with matches can do.

And in all honesty - even if an ADULT had made a bonfire that day, I doubt in their mind they'd think it would evolve into a fire that big!!!

I have offered my answer. Get the "experts" off our backs and allow parents to actually parent.
Irrelevant to the fire - you'd be HUUUUGELY suprised at how many people just don't know how to do that.

And I mean the basics.... Comfort a child when it cries... when to feed a baby when it's hungry.

If someone has never been brought up responsibly, or lovingly, it's quite likely that they won't have ever learnt how to parent their own kids in a responsible way.

Of course, it's multiple factors that leads to an outcome, not just one or the other.

I personally think we should give everyone parenting courses. YES some people are already fantastic, so they don't have to listen ;)

But, the people who NEED parenting courses don't COME for them. If they are on offer, it's the middle class, not a problem who generally turn up.

The people who NEED them aren't usually in that bracket, yet they are probably producing the most children......

That's my view anyway. And it's based on what I see and what I know and what I share with people who pick up the pieces of bad parenting.

I suggest you calm down. I edited it because it concerned PRIVATE MESSAGE detail which is not allowed. Follow the rules or get your posts edited, Puck. It's pretty simple.

Okay people.... :D Time for a nice DEEP cleansing breath. Everyone has their own opinions on different subject matters... can't really say one person's opinion is right verses the other because it's a matter of opinion. Lets try and not get our panties in a wad because you might get a crap stripe on them if they get too far up there :yikes:

Okay, joking aside... can we have a group hug now and call a truce?? Pretty please... with sugar on top?!?! I promise I won't drool...:)

We could at least all agree that this was a terrible tragedy and we need to keep the families affected by this tragedy close to our hearts.

Puck, I hate to poke you with a stick here, but what do you think of Ron Paul? (If you have heard of him, that is.)
