    Presidential dog picked

HA! To be sure, Fox will find a way to turn this into a scandal. Somehow, the dog will be either a communist sympathiser, a Black Panther or a "pal" of domestic terrorists. Oh, and it will probably have a forged birth certificate too :rofl1:

    Presidential dog picked

I'm just glad they didn't pick some god-awful "'doodle." Personally, I think the names the girls picked out were cute! I quite like Frank. Or maybe, since the decision was probably swayed by Ted Kennedy, the could call the dog Ted or Teddy. I'm sure whatever they decide on will be cute though.

Ideas for a puppy gift basket?

Without knowing what kind of dog they are getting, I totally recommend getting them a Furminator! They are pretty cheap on Amazon, at least for the moment. I think I paid around $20 for the medium sized one, My breeder demonstrated the thing on my dog and I was like "THAT is the coolest thing...

    Oh lord help me!

Oh gosh, I feel for you. Either one of these two would be very difficult to resist! And from the sounds of it, either one would have a great home with you. I wish you luck. Resistence may be futile!

Buddy...wouldn't he be a wonderful dog for the White House!!

I believe President Obama has already stated that ideally, he would like their new dog to come from a shelter or rescue, but due to his daughter's allergies, this may not be an option. Would it send a good message if the Obamas adopted a shelter dog? Sure. It would also send a good message if...

Should I find a new vet for Augie? *WARNING! LONG RANT*

So, are you all trying to say I should take Augie to my dentist instead ;)

Should I find a new vet for Augie? *WARNING! LONG RANT*

I agree with you that it's important to talk to owners about diet, proper weight, etc, but just putting my dog on a scale and saying "he's awfully big" is not helpful. She never even put her hands on my dog, nor did she offer any further information. Just a snide comment. I also agree that a...

I like the first one. It's cool and funky, and I concur than smaller patterns look better on collars.

Should I find a new vet for Augie? *WARNING! LONG RANT*

I've been going to the same vet for about 20 years now, and I've always been very, very happy with her. She's fantastic with my animals and all the dogs have adored her. In terms of their medical care, she has never steered me in the wrong direction. I can't say enough good things about her...

"Your Lab is overweight!" Is this going to be the story of my life?

My former Lab, Huck, was indeed a handful for about the first year, but after training and socialization, he settled down nicely. He was still a fairly high-energy dog though, especially compared to Augie who's like a rug on Valium by comparison. The first couple days I had him home, I kept...

"Your Lab is overweight!" Is this going to be the story of my life?

:lol-sign: Yes, it's quite obvious you are abusing those poor animals, nothing more than skin and bones. Great pics, by the way! Your dogs are absolutely gorgeous! I would love to have a border collie, but they just wouldn't fit into my lifestyle at the moment. They are so smart, I'd be...

"Your Lab is overweight!" Is this going to be the story of my life?

To be honest, I was kind of surprised the breeder was feeding Pro Plan. I guess I always thought of it as a lower quality food, but supposedly, a lot of breeders swear by the stuff. I fed my old Labrador, Huck, Science Diet at first--which he hated---then Avoderm, which he loved and so did I. He...

"Your Lab is overweight!" Is this going to be the story of my life?

He's eating Pro Plan Chicken and Rice at the moment, plus a NuVet daily supplement. I pretty much went this route because the breeder was feeding Pro Plan, and I don't want to change his food before doing some research. It's true, Augie is not exactly "lean." He's really solid, but not well...

    Help with Augie's homework!

I never knew that, that's awesome. I'm gonna call up and double check that it's OK, then me and Augie are headed to the hardware store! There's actually a couple of things I need too, so this will work out great.

    Help with Augie's homework!

There was a softball game going on at the park yesterday, so I made sure to walk him past so he could experience all the noise and excitement. No kids on the playground though, which I thought was a bit weird. I'll have to try going at another time when there are more kids. There are...

What a gorgeous doggie! I'm a total sucker for hounds and can't wait to see more pictures of him!

    Help with Augie's homework!

Part of Augie's "homework" in his new obedience class is to visit two new places each week that he has never been to before. I think this is a fantastic idea and a great way to socialize him, but I'm running out of ideas! He just had his first class last Saturday and I'm already at a loss. So...

    I feel bad

Don't feel bad! And if this ever comes up in the future, just put one of his old toys away for a while, then haul it out on his birthday with tremendous fanfare! He'll probably think it's a brand new toy ;)

Do you currently own your heart breed, or are you still looking?

I have to say, I'm a Labrador girl at heart (Augie is my second) but I would love to have a Corgi, preferably a Cardigan and may look into getting one in the nearish future if it would be a good fit with Augie and me. I'll have to research. Other breeds I'm very partial to are Rottweilers...

"Your Lab is overweight!" Is this going to be the story of my life?

You are correct, he is not particularly well toned, and I do think some of his "squishy" look may be due to the fact that he's only 11 months old, and still looks pretty puppyish. I can't wait to see what he looks like in a year! So far, Augie looks very similar to his dad, who in my opinion, is...
