There are, not one, but two border collie/crosses in shelter around me right now. The family has talked about adding a puppy (Border collie) to the family since I decided I wouldn't be going to college, and I had been looking at breeders. We were just going to wait for the right litter to come along.

Now, I'm a rescue person, you all know it if you know Bella's story. I'm a sucker for those in need. Today I was just routinly looking at Border Collies on PF and came across these two. One in the city closest to me, one about 2 or 3 hours from me.

The first is Tequila, no picture on the site for the shelter, or Petfinder, but here's what they say:
Tequila is a typical young border collie with lots of energy and would be an excellent companion for someone that enjoys dog sports like agility trials or flyball. She is very smart, attentive and gentle and would make a great addition to any home however we recommend that she doesn't go home with a family with young childern, below 9 years old.
I do agility, am interested in Flyball, have no chlidren below 9 in the house, and don't often have any come to visit.

The second is Lulu, a supposed Border Collie/German Shepherd, but I honestly don't see the GSD. I see maybe Aussie/Border Collie but it's hard to tell when they're so young. She's the one that's about 2-3 hours from me, but nothing we haven't driven before for less reason. Here's her picture:

And here's what they say about her (Not much):
Lulu is an adorable mixed breed pup. 6 weeks old on Feb. 20. She is social and loving.
I'm crazy. Totaly crazy.

Oh gosh, I feel for you. Either one of these two would be very difficult to resist! And from the sounds of it, either one would have a great home with you. I wish you luck. Resistence may be futile!

I'm cautious to get another older dog (the first one's a year old) because of the issues I ran into with Bella, but I also feel like I'm well equiped to deal with it, too...

I have to wait for my dad to come home, but I must say, the puppy Lulu is drawing me in!

Knowing myself, I would most likely get both.

You know yourself best......if you can offer a great home and have the stability to take care of them both emotionally, physically and financially....why not?

I can't resist her, but I bet my mom or dad could! ;) Since it's thier house, what they say goes.

I would love both, but I already have two other dogs I train and work with, plus we have 7 in the house in total. This would be my third girl, and my third to work with, but also the 8th in the house. I'm not sure if a shelter would even adopt out to me because of how many we have.

If they say no, ask if they could do a house visit and see how you do have the resources to properly take care of another animal. If all of your animals are healthy and well mannered, one more dog isn't going to kill you :)

I would think that my training experience, my dog agression experience, my agility, my fenced in yard, my already rescued GSD, and my famr land (at least 60 acres) would be enough to get a yes...

I know that the older one would be adopted out to me, I have experience with that shelter (My sister adopted a cat from them), and I've got to visit the dogs, and brought toys often... It's just a matter of the pup if I want the pup, or the older dog. We're going into town Thursday, and I may go see the older one if she's still there... Maybe get in touch with the other shelter and take a drive out there thursday to see the puppy, I just need to talk to my mom.

You'll make the right choice. ;) Have you talked to Lynn any more about the summer litter?

Not more then knowing when they bitch is supposed to come into heat, and that I'd like to have a pup from that litter, supposing something else doesn't come up.

you know I'm a sucker for a rescue, Lizmo, if I can find a BC in rescue here and get approved, I'll take her. I want to rescue a dog, ya know?

So go for this girl. Contact the rescue to see if you can go meet her. Meeting her will tell you if she's right now not. :)

Can't go meet her today, but am e-mailing them about e-mailing my application. We're snowed in, or I'd take it to have it faxed. I'll send it in, see if I get approved, and then if I do go see her Thursday.
