Yeah, PDA is the most common heart defect requiring correction. Fortunately the duct isn't actually in the heart, so if surgery has to be performed, it isn't on the heart itself. But it's likely that Hannah's problem is something different, and even more minor.

Certain babies, like my own daughter, have their duct kept open artificially on purpose because they need the extra mixing it provides, they use drugs for this and then close the duct later, surgically, if necessary.

Many babies have small atrial or ventricular defects that close on their own as they get older. Usually these are just watched. Murmers may even be caused by turbulent flow with no defect present, especially if the baby is sick and stressed.

Then there are all kinds of more serious problems that would have likely been symptomatic by now, and so are extremely unlikely for little Hannah.

I'm looking forward to the next update, which I hope and pray will be that she continues to improve, and that nothing problematic was found on the echo.

Hey everyone....

hehe I just love those pics. she's so cute I almost can't stand it :D

Update:

The heart murmur was nothing.... she has a small hole in her heart and the Dr said it should close up on it's own but as a precaution we are to take her for a scan in 6-8 weeks. As you can see she is off the oxygen all together now and doing great. She also pulled out her IV from her cord. LOL the nurse just laughed and said "that's ok we were going to take that out today anyway so I guess that means less work for us." I got to nurse her today too :D HOORAY. I fed her for the first time at 2 pm and she was SO funny. she knew exactly what was going on.... as soon as they handed her to me she started trying to get to the boob through my shirt lol so I pulled her back so I could get ready to nurse her and as soon as I started to pull up my shirt her eyes got really wide and she opened her mouth as wide as she could and started bobbing her head and making this "OOH OOH OOH" sound lol. The nurses were cracking up. She just could NOT wait to latch on.... she was so excited LOL. I will remember that forever.

The Dr said That Hannah will be able to come home on Saturday.... YAAAAAAAAAAY come on Saturday.

*Big huge sigh of relief* I am soooo happy for you that little baby Hannah is over the pneumonia and doing so well. She is so adorable. I just adore babies. And she is one beautiful little dumpling. I know you two must be just bursting at the seams with joy. I loved your little story about how she got after you for nursing. It brought back memories of my little Emily. She use to swing her head from side to side and get closer and closer while I cringed in fear. I use to call her the little barracuda. She was tough!

Anyhow, congratulations again!!!

Oh, Sparks. Isn't it wonderful to finally get to cuddle up with her and feed her? I am so glad you finally get to take her home. My wish for you is that in all her growing up years she never causes this much excitrment again. She has used up her full allotment!
