Yup. We're right smack in the projected northeast quadrant & will be on the east side (the worst side for those that don't know about hurricanes
).
It's crazy here. Mandatory evacs have started tomorrow and contraflow (Interstates 10 & 12 will only flow in one dirction as will Highway 90) starts tomorrow night.
There is nothing left to buy......it's all been bought. I can't find bread anywhere. Thank goodness I remembered about 5 minutes ago I have a bread machine, so I'm headed to the store later to get yeast as I have everything else I need to make several loaves of bread.
We're stocking up and will be boarding up the house as soon as we know exactly where it will hit. My husband works for Shell and he's been declared "essential personnel" so he will be a part of the skeleton crew who will bunk at the plant and ride the storm out there.
His family lives in St. Bernard and St. Charles Parishes, & many of them are coming to stay in our small, already cramped home. Yippee. The worst part is I HATE his parents Bulldog, who has already growled at my son for literally no reason other than Cole walked by him, and my mil refuses to kennel him. Too bad sweetheart. Not only is the dog going to be kenneled, his kennel is going to be where all the other dogs' kennels are - the garage. And his other aunt is brining their Bichon Frise who has never been kenneled. Too bad again. We have an extra kennel the the marshmellow will reside in it. And I'm sure my dogs are going to want to eat it....or at least taste it. Great.
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous. For those that don't know, we lost 5 dogs when a tree fell on our house compliments of a nearby tornado that touched down. I also lost my last horse (a total of 6 horses died) when a tree fell on the barn.
But we don't have anymore trees, so I'm a little bit comforted by that fact.
Tomorrow, when Craig's family gets here, I'm heading to my friend's house where I keep my horses, and we are going to do what we can to "hurricane-proof" it. They actually cut their tree down that was towering over the barn. So we'll be tarping all around the barn and building all the stalls up.
I guess my biggest sadness is Craig's uncle is sugar cane farmer and last year was his first good crop (& 2nd crop) since Katrina & Rita damaged all the fields. That's their sole income. It's going to hit them hard.
