I got the feeling it was something a lot worse, Grammy . . . I just got a feeling from what this guy wouldn't say and how he wouldn't say it . . . well, that there was a reason McCain got out in a lot better shape than most of the others.

Whether or not anyone thinks McCain is a hero doesn't matter. To me it matter is that he served his country. Obama nor Hilary served time in the military. And MY personal opinion is that if you aren't willing to serve our country, you shouldn't be running it.

Oh, you mean like Bush served his country?

Or did you vote for Kerry? Who not only served, but served in one of the messiest, deadliest areas of Viet Nam.

Bush at least served in the Texas Air National Guard which is a reserve component of the USAF. Which was called to active duty. Even though some say he was treated favorably because of his father.

It wasn't a "some say" thing at all. The man who was Lt. Governor who arranged it admitted it years later.

AND, Bush actually deserted from the Champagne Flight detail . . . and that got covered up too.

No, Bush didn't serve anything. He got to tool around in expensive toys. And it's not like Texas was exactly a war zone  Comparing Shrub's playdate in the reserves to actually going to Viet Nam is ludicrous and an insult to EVERYONE who has ever served in a conflict.

I'm going to say a warning first off - DO NOT bash any kind of service in the Guard - many of the soldiers in my unit are just now returning from Afghanistan, Iraq and Kuwait....we lost three members of our Battalion - it's not just some froufrou job. I'll be deployable this time next year as well...and I have no illusions that I wont be. VA isnt a warzone either...doesnt mean we're not serving like everyone else.

I'm probably the only college student to say this (I'm 22), but I would rather throw myself off a cliff than vote for Obama...I would have voted Hillary over him, and that's saying alot because I dont respect her.

Which means I'll be voting for McCain.

lol - I also voted for Bush and am not too unhappy...with the exception of the immigration thing.

The Guard now is a whole lot different than the Guard was then, Falconara. I've got friends who've not only gotten shipped off to combat zones from the Guard, but have been re-shipped again, right before they were due to be mustered out.

Back during Viet Nam, though, the Guard units were places where rich kids got to go to avoid getting shot at. Times change.

And back in WWII the 29th ID stormed the Beaches of Normandy

VA and MD National Guard.

I think if you actually look into the history of the Guard it's not as frou as you may think it is....but hey...what do I know...I've only been enlisted for three years.

The reason the Shrub is so soft on immigration is to set the stage for Jeb, who has massive appeal to the Latino population, largely due to being married to a very personable Latina.

About the time Jeb makes his run, there will be a vast generation of anchor babies of Hispanic descent turning 18. Voting age.

Whatever it was back in WW2 and what it is now notwithstanding, it was what it was during the Viet Nam conflict, and there were a lot of favors called in and promised so that rich kids and politicians' kids could evade being drafted and having to go to Viet Nam.

The guys who went to Canada or Mexico to avoid the draft were at least HONEST about what they were doing.

And no, that's not me saying so about the future of the Shrub dynasty. That's straight from the Latino community.

:( Clinton

If Obama chooses Clinton for his running mate, I'll vote Obama. If not, I not sure I will vote at all. I've never voted for a Republican beyond a local office (and only once that I recall) so there's no chance my vote goes to McCain. Obama or none at all (for the first time ever, I might not vote).

The fact that McCain is older than Israel somewhat bothers me. The fact that he sees no problem in being at war with Iraq for the next 100 years AND wants to go after Iran while he's in office, bothers me. The fact that he's publically admitted that he knows next to nothing about economics and doesn't seem to care overly much about health care REALLY bothers me.

I heard a quip referring to the 2000/2004 elections on the radio tonight that just made me giggle. "This should be the Official Republican T-Shirt-- "I voted against Gay Marriage and all I got was this lousy economy"."

I don't feel all that comfortable voting for Obama either...he's got awesome hyperbole and is a great rah-rah speaker. Everyone needs hope and there's a reason why motivational speakers earn 6 figure incomes, sometimes seven figures. Beyond that...I'm not sure how much faith I hold in his ability to get the job done. An Obama/Clinton ticket could have it's ups, but I also think the two will spend so much time vying for the spotlight while in office that they might as well set the next season of "Survivor/Big Brother" in the White House.

In short...I have no idea.

Oh good god. The people in power really do have all this sh-t planned out.

IF I was voting - and I am not - it would be for Obama, if it's just between Obama and McCain. McNasty is ****ing scary. NOT anyone I want in power, much less as a president..
