DOES ANYONE NOW GET A FEELING FOR WHY WE ARE SCARED????

Insert the name of YOUR breed in this, and see how scared you get.

This is happening EVERY day, all over the globe, it is only a matter of time before they start winning!!!!

Draconian Ohio Breed-Specific Bill Introduced

[Tuesday, May 20, 2008]

Ohio House Bill 568, introduced by Representative Tyrone Yates of
Cincinnati, seeks to prohibit the ownership, keeping, or harboring of a
dog that "belongs to a breed that is commonly known as a pit bull dog."
Furthermore, if this bill is passed and adopted into law, all such dogs
will be seized and euthanized. It is imperative that all concerned dog
owners in Ohio contact their elected representatives and express their
vehement opposition to this draconian legislation.

The American Kennel Club supports reasonable, enforceable,
non-discriminatory laws to govern the ownership of dogs. The AKC
believes that dog owners should be responsible for their dogs. We
support laws that: establish a fair process by which specific dogs are
identified as "dangerous" based on stated, measurable actions; impose
appropriate penalties on irresponsible owners; and establish a
well-defined method for dealing with dogs proven to be dangerous. The
American Kennel Club strongly opposes any legislation that determines a
dog to be "dangerous" based on specific breeds or phenotypic classes of
dogs.

HB 568 unacceptably provides that:

* No person shall own, keep, or harbor a dog that belongs to a
breed that is commonly known as a pit bull dog.
* No later than 90 days after the effective date of this bill, a
person who owns, keeps, or harbor a pit bull dog will be forced to
surrender the dog to a dog warden.
* Within ten days of surrender, the dog warden shall euthanize the dog.
* If an officer has probable cause to believe that a dog is a pit
bull, the officer may apply for a search warrant. After obtaining a
search warrant, an officer shall seize the dog and transfer the dog to
the dog warden, who shall euthanize the dog within 10 days.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

All concerned Ohio dog owners should contact their elected
representatives and express their strong opposition to HB 568. To find
your elected representatives, click here.

sheesh
stupid ohio government
reposting everywhere and raising a HUGE PROTEST!

I DON'T EVEN OWN A PIT AND I AM OUTRAGED! It's bad enough that "if it looks like a pit, it's a pit" by ohio dog pound laws, but to take away peoples' loving pets?

  Fear mongers and Idiots

It is so ridiculous how politicians use fear to gain popularity and distract us from real problems.

I realize I am preaching to the choir but I Just had to say something......

This is so terrifying to me I am nearly speechless. I have been spreading this around the net this morning, meanwhile I am making flyers up to go hand out since it is National Dog Bite Prevention week.

Penny will be carrying her basket this afternoon and handing out flyers about how kids can be safe around dogs.

It is my small contribution to the future of my breed, and all the other persecuted ones.

Holy Cow, this is bad!

I live in Ohio and although I'm fairly certain my dog doesn't have pit bull in him. However, I could still imagine some stupid dog warded thinking he does because of his big silly grin.

If anyone has a form l can use that would be great...otherwise, I would like a general idea of how to properly compose a letter to write to whomever I can that will hopefully stop this.

That is awful. :(

Isn't Ohio a big puppy milling state? Why don't they try to target THOSE instead of innocent dogs?

This is just awful and wrong in every way possible! My best friend from Kindergarten has two pit bulls, and they are great dogs! They think they're little lap dogs and puppies and they are so very sweet. It isn't the breed of dog they should be concerned about, but irresponsible owners!

There is a site called Care 2. I don't know if you guys are aware of it, or what you think of it if you are. They have a ton of petitions on there you can sign. Anyway, there are many of them regarding APBT's. I haven't yet found one for Ohio yet, but there are ones for several states there. Anyway, I thought maybe someone would be interested. I found petitions for pets and so many came up! When I just searched for APBT's, I got like 282 hits or something! I don't know how well these petitions actually work, but it wouldn't hurt I don't think. Perhaps if there isn't one for this Ohio thing, we could create one?

I live in Ohio and I think it's just awful they would try this. There are so many other things they could be trying to do here, instead of picking on these great dogs!
