LGDS need to work with other dogs they should NEVER be dog " aggressive" just dog dominant and aggressive to predators such as Wolf and Coyote.

i have over 2000 pics of them working witih other dogs, to living in a pack with Yorkies, Maltese, GSD, Neo's, etc etc

http://www.casdog.com/photopost/showgallery.php/cat/674
Same species yet but not the same thing.

Regarding vet visits I can hand off most my dogs off to my Vet, because once a CAS is introduced they accept extended members such as Vet tech.
My harder dogs are STACKED up and hold for shots etc.

LGDS are not monster in DEFENSE all the time.
The only ones in defense all the time are UNSOCIALIZED Dogs . this is human error in part breeding and part lack of training.

Some breeds have higher defense drives than others.
And yes some are dog aggressive because they are NOT working LGDS. But more of a pet bred to look big and not work. ( or figthing lines have occured from Estrela to ASD to CAS or Co's )...

LGDS can not protect a herd ALONE, if they want to KILL each dog they see they are in fact killing thier back up so it is NOT cost effective.
Dogs that lack pack drive can not work effectively where Predator pressure is daily.

Ren, I agree, I'm not talking about needing extra handling, a muzzle or anything of the sort. I'm talking about a dog that does nothing but fight and try to bite, despite the vet and tech's efforts to make the dog more comfortable.

We treated a Central Asian today at the clinic, a working LGD from one of the local dairy farms. He was uncomfortable with the handling and growled a couple times as a warning, but he was manageable and calmly confident through his pre-op work. I LOVED that dog. He acted like royalty the entire time, we weren't his friends but he knew we weren't a threat to him either.

Here is a total stranger dont think he needs a tranq..
CAS that are too "liable to anger" are DQ based on the standard.
If I had a $1.00 for the people that pet this dog that day I would have over a few hundred per day.

ATTS TT CGC TDI

ATTS TT TDI CGC Protection Tested FCI Tan

ATTS TT TDI CGC FCI TAN .

All Working livestock dogs... No dog aggression NO tranq's

Ah ok. ;) Like an old-type Neo especially if under-socialized.

Pharaoh hound or a Scottish deerhound.

I've already made plans to get a show girl from Xerxes' breeder. I'm hoping that she'll be my foundation bitch. But at this time I'm not sure if that's going to come to fruition.

SDHs are, in my book, a wondrous breed. Tall, powerful, smooth, balanced and very regal. A rough exterior and the most warm, kind and buttery personality of any dog. (and so much quieter than Pharaohs!)

I will definately get a harlequin great dane (HARLEQUIN:D), but lately I've been looking over one of our national breeds and it's called a bucovina romanian sheepdog. It's a very beautiful dog and I've read that it's very protective and smart. I looove big dogs!

Unless...some other dog pops up into my life ... (I didn't plan to get a mini schnauzer...and here I am) ;)

Why would anyone want a dog like this? the mind boggles.

I don't understand the fascincation with dangerous breeds of dogs and why people keep them as pets.
They aren't a "dangerous breed of dog." But it is a dangerous world we live in and mine has already kept me safe on several occasions. I value my freedom and living with Kharma makes that freedom quite real.

Not to mention the depth of the bond with a Fila is beyond anything you can imagine until you've had it. This is a creature who does not need you to survive and thrive at all - there is no physical dependency in the relationship with a Fila. It is purely love that binds you and your Fila, and respect, and it flows both ways.

Way to go, Nikki ;) I've met Amy and we've had some good talks. She's great, and she has some AMAZING dogs.

Now, my next dog? Another Fila, of course! Probably one or two - or three, lol, Kharma pups!

Oh, and RD . . . I've never had a problem at all with vet visits. I just make sure they get taken every week or so to get weighed and handled and spoiled while they are pups. That way they get to know everyone and they know that this is acceptable doin's for the vet's office ;) Even though my vet affectionately refers to Filas as "alligators with fur" lol . . . but he loves Kharma and Shiva - because of how I've raised them. They give him less trouble than most of his other clients!

They aren't dangerous breeds of dogs. The only dangerous dog is one in the hands of a complete idiot who lacks respect and responsibility for his or her dog.

I can guarantee you that the 10lb mutt across the street is more dangerous than my fila, because my fila is trained. Whoa. What a concept! I'd much rather have a dog with brains, personality and mystique then fall prey to the fascination with oodles and minis that get put in strollers and paraded around in clothing that is more expensive than my own.

Mine would be a shelter dog..of unknown breed, until I found the perfect one.

I don't plan on ANY new dogs for many, many, many, many years from now lol. But all my dogs will be rescues. I won't go to a breeder for a specific breed.

I would really love a pug, and a great dane though. :)

Honestly why does anyone want any dog? Dogs have the potential to be dangerous no matter the breed or how much you trust it. My dog Bandit bit a man who went to grab me. We are talking your typical family companion, man went to grab, Bandit bit him and would not let go. Dangerous dog? Maybe. Deserves to be put to sleep? Depends on who you ask. Personally I am greatful to have him in my life. He's protective when provoked in an extreme situation. If he wasn't trained he would be a "Dangerous" dog. It's just the way he is. Through training and our bond he's become a trusted part of my family. I did not go out looking for a guard dog but I certainly got one.

I am not comparing him in mind or body to a Fila just stating that every dog can easily snap into "dangerous" mode if they feel like something of theirs is being threatened. Dogs are animals with minds of their own. We never fully have 100% control over them no matter how much training a dog has.

I have a "short list" lol A Belgian or another Sheltie is at the top. I am also considering PWDs, Corgis, Aussies, Tollers, Am Staffs, and Border Collies. I guess my list isn't really that short. lol Or possibly a rescue mutt.
