..For those who don't yet have a puppy lined up, what breed/mix are you thinking you want for your next "kid"? When do you expect to get another dog?

I honestly don't know what I'm going to get or when. I'm thinking I want a large dog with a low maintainance coat, but that's about as far as I can go since I don't know where my life will be in a year + from now. If I don't wind up getting a big dog, my next will probably be another border collie. Possibly one of Eve's puppies, if she ends up being a good stockdog and has the right stuff for breeding.

So, what are your plans for additional dogs?

An Eve puppy? LOL

I know I have a pup lined up for next summer. But other than that I probably won't get another dog for another 3+ years. I'm not sure of the breed, I think I would like something other than a BC. Maybe a small dog? Or a Golden?

If I do not bump into a dog needing a home or find the perfect one at a shelter it will forsure be a male Sheltie from a breeder. As for going out and adopting one at a shelter if nothing has changed I'd want a medium-smaller scale large dog with a reasonable coat (no hour daily grooming sessions for me!) and a dog who is willing to go on long walks. Age isn't a factor. If I still have Bandit by then (I have no idea when I'll be getting another dog and I don't plan on it for years to come) the dog will have to be easy going because he has a dominant personality. So long as it fits in with my furkids and I like it just fine I am really not picky. I've always adored Rotti's and Bully dogs but the border collies are growing on me so we'll see.

:)

My next dog is probably going to be a Show Doberman when William is a bit more grown up. Either that or a Great Dane or Fila... Doubt I would ever find a Fila around here though, I had never even heard of them untill Chaz.

Another pit bull. As I just cannot imagine my life without one now.
But I have to CONSTANLY fight the urge to look into maybe getting an American Bulldog. I have to remind myself that I'm small person and that an AB is too much dog for me. Though they are BEAUTIFUL dogs. ESPECIALLY the Scott line.
I'm less for the ABs with the smooshed in muzzles.

^^^^^ thats what i was going to say but i know me and i have my heart set on a Fila. That is unless my dads friend breeds his pitty. Hes a Jeep/Colby dog and he wants to find a similar lined female but is having a difficult time finding one he likes.

I'm familiar with Colby lines, but what is Jeep?
And does he plan on doing the right things before he breeds his dog?
You KNOW I HAVE TO ask because this is my breed and I feel VERY passionately about people just breeding them.
Sorry, I'm not trying to be snot. Trust me.

No idea.

I'd like a sighthound one day, though it might not be the NEXT dog I get. Depends on size requirements where I live mainly.

As of now, it's looking like it might just be a greyhound. If I'm stuck under 25 lbs, the only breed I'm interested in is a papillon.

One day when I have a yard, it'll be a beezer. That's the breed I have my heart set on.

I want to get a Border Collie for my next dog. It probably won't be for a couple of years, though. We'd like to get a house first.

My family's next dog will be another Doberman for sure, as Winston is getting up there in age and my parents don't want to be without a Dobie.

I'm not sure what exactly I'd like to get next though (aside from the Dobe).

More than anything, I'd love a Groenendael, but that isn't looking too likely as long as I'm still living with my parents. I've been thinking about an Australian Shepherd or a Border Collie also, but more than likely it will be another Toller. Or some sort of mixed breed from a local rescue. Definitely not any time soon though, probably at least 3 years from now.

I have always had Jrts, and I often thought that IF I got another breed it would be a small smooth coated BC from working lines.
BUT I did a In Home visit the other day to help some people out with the dog that they had rescued and she is a very cool dog........a Portuguese Podengo.
So that is a breed that I would also consider, I had never heard of it and did some research...........a dog that would suit me just fine.

I don't think I'll have the pleasure of bringing another dog into my life for a very long time. :( I despise being dogless. But that's the way it is right now. *sigh*
Anyway... my next dog will likely be a shelter dog. I'm not sure what I'll end up with, but I've been looking at GSDs and GSD mixes because we have an abundance (unfortunately) of them in shelters down here.
If I were to choose a pure breed from a breeder, I don't know. I was looking at Schipperkes they seem like they have everything I want, but I did want something a little larger this time around. Spaniels have caught my eye in the last year or so, especially Clumbers. And then there is always the Mastiffs that I love, Neos being my favourites of course. :)
It's very difficult to decide. But I have a long time to think about it.

Cass.

Oh i know what you mean they are my breed too. I have had them since i could walk my dad has had tehm since he was 15. And geuss who he got to meet before his ex-wife took over the line BOB SORRELL of sorrell pits at a weight pull in Palatka, FL in 1995. And yes he does. This dog is in ADBA and does weight pull and hunts with all the tests done. He has already bred him once and he is a WONDERFUL producer. Jeep (Crenshaw) is another well bred line. Basically my two dream lines in one dog. Heres an example: Trying to find a picture online is proving to be as difficult as finding a true pit bull in teh razors edge line. LOL. Most of the pics i have are in books but im trying to track one down.

Heres a write up. but if you are a member of Register of Merit forum they have a complete section of Crenshaws dogs.

Throughout the history of the sporting American Pit Bull Terriers, no single dog has made quite the impact as Garrett's CH. Jeep, and that being the combination of not only his worthiness as a supreme Pit dog, but the ultimate supremacy of his reproduction. Jeep was bred by James Crenshaw and sold to James Garrett as a young dog and was campaigned and brought to notoriety by James Garrett asssisted by James Crenshas. Jeep achieved his fourth win over Ozzie Stevens' CH. Homer. This fight making history, for the caliber of these two dogs meeting in the Pit is unusual in itself. Although, Jeep the victor, Homer, in his own rights, had proved to be just as good a combat dog and both dogs were truly entitiled to the legacy that they have earned through this match.

Now that the formidable worth of Jeep has been established, we will go on to the greatest asset this dog ever possessed and that was his ability to reproduce a staggering figure of Champions, one Grand Champion and numerous one and two time winners. The conversation at many conventions always leads to great dogs and a dispute of which bloodlines are the best to utilize to get the highest percentage of Game and winning dogs. I have often heard this one statement being passed when Jeep's name is brought up as to his high figure on the R.O.M. (Register Of Merit) list and that is, well look how many bitches JEEP was bred to to create the amount of Champions he has sired. My answer to those dogmen is this. Take three major Pit dogs that are from outstanding bloodlines such as STP's Grand Champion Buck, six time winner, STP's Champion Toro and Burton's Grand Champion Hank, as these three were considered exceptional Pit dogs and many utilized these three different bloods for the sole purpose of producing or establishing new lines from them. All three lived approximately to the same age which was ten years. Two were campained approximately the same time and died not to far apart, that being, CH. Toro and Gr. CH. Hank. Hank made his Pit history prior to theirs, but was bred as many times as Jeep, if not more. Gr. CH. Buck, probably second to Hank in the amount of his breedings and Toro, who was bred to 23 different bitches during this period. The fact is all three of these great dogs combined together, produced about half the number of Champions as Jeep has. So common, sense will tell you how many champions doesn't hold water. In retrospect, dogs like CH. Homer, Gr. CH. Art, and Tombstone who was bred limited amounts of times and was still able to produce high quality dogs should also be considered. Certain dogs should be on the ROM list considering the number of times they have been bred, like: Jeep, Buck, Yellow, Frisco and Mayday to name a few.

Some of the crosses which are well known where Jeep created some great dogs and the blood seems to click the best with are Jeep / Red Boy and Jeep / Rascal.

CH. Jeep was born in August 1976 on the Yard of James Crenshaw, in the famous litter of Finley's CH. Bo ROM to Crenshaw's CH. Honeybunch ROM. That produced four champions. The most famous of the four was CH. Jeep ROM. But there was also Crenshaw's (Super Gnat's) CH. Charlie, who has been said to have been a better Pit dog than Jeep. CH. Missy who is seen in alot of pedigrees today, and Swetman's CH. Holly, who was said to be a terrible biter with lots of ability. This was a great litter that was made once, for reasons that I don't know.

CH. Jeep is believed by many to be one of the best Match dogs of his time.

Defeated Pylant's CH. Kato at 43 pounds in :28 minutes. Cooper's Weenie also at 43 pounds in :58 minutes. Stinson & Stepp's Black Dog, who was said to be a three time winner at 42 pounds in two hours and five minutes. And, for his fourth and final Match we went into Ozzie Stevens' CH. Homer, at 43 pounds and won in 3:45. This was one of those classic matches, that history is made from. Two great Game dogs met, and only one could win. One created a legacy and the other a dynasty.

and finally a pedigree with a picture ill see if i can find better tho.

My next will be a male Great Dane. I want to do therapy with him, so I will get a well bred puppy from a good breeder.

Unless some freak accident happens to my dogs I won't be getting one quite a while yet.

I will be breeding Spider next May, so def. that will be where I keep my foundation stock for my lines. I would love to keep a male and a bitch, but we will see how it all works out.

Well, I was 100% totally set on getting a Portuguese Water Dog, had a breeder and even a timeframe all set up, but....

I honestly think that my next dog is going to be a coonhound (probably either a bluetick or B&T) from a shelter. I don't plan on getting another dog until both of my two are gone, I really think that I'd do best with one dog of my own and then fosters.

atm I'd love a border Collie next.

That said,I hate seeing so many ACD's and kelpies in pounds.
I'm a sucker for a resce animal lol.

it depends on my situation really. If we end up with enough land I'll be getting a secnd dog before I move out. If not I'll have to wait till I'm set up out of town.
Getting a second dog will also mean most likley waiting longer to move out whiel I save more money and find I rental that will allow a young person with 2 dogs.

I'd like a GSP as my first show dog, but want a dog I can compete in agility and ob with first.
Never used to be a fan of BC's, now I can't get enough of them. The other reason I'd prefer a BC over a kelpie or ACD at first is kelpies and ACD's are more prone to DA and thats really not something I want to go through again.
I'd also like to wait untill I complete my dog training course, but on the other hand I wonder if I should get a pup first so I can take it down with me and complete the course while training that pup as i will most likley not be able to take Buster down to the block traiing sessions with me.

i have no idea. i won't be getting another dog for a long time, though. not until luce and mushroom are old, and they're only five right now. then i'll be looking for a new sport dog, but i keep flitting from place to place with breed, everywhere from cocker spaniel to doberman to acd to border collie to malinois to standard poodle. who knows what i'll end up with. and if the akc has decided to include mixed breed dogs in their companion events by then, or if there are more events put on by alternate groups, then possibly i'll get a mixed breed dog if one strikes my fancy.
