Dutchess
Dog Story

Dutchess
A
Little Angel
From
the Owner:
This picture of Dutchess was was done in pencil
by Joy Kope in California.
She was able to capture the regality of our little angel.
She is a rescue dog that used to be on a sled team in
Nevada. She is an alpha female and did not get along well
with other females on the team, so she came to stay with
us. We have had her since she was 14 months--she will
turn 3 next month.
She has helped foster puppies with us for the Animal Humane
Association, and more importantly she has nursed me back
to health while I have been recovering from a life threatening
illness I contracted when living in Japan. She sings beautifully
when my husband and I come home from work and is quite
the affectionate dog.
She lives with her "brother" Thunder, also a rescue dog
from Oklahoma City. The two of them are inseparable and
have bonded in such a special relationship that it will
warm your heart. They have helped us foster many a sick
Siberian....one in particular who almost died. All three
of us, myself included slept on the floor next to Cinnamon
for nearly 2 weeks nursing her back to health. The two
dogs just seemed to know as they would cuddle next to
her, lick her ears, and just sensed that she was very
ill.
Within about a month, the three were romping together
and it was a beautiful site. Cinnamon is now with her
permanent family in Colorado.
I firmly believe that the dogs provided strength to her
in a language only the dogs understood. They are truly
magnificent animals that are ambassadors for rescue as
being survivors themselves and helping us with we foster
and nurse others back to help.
She's my baby girl---I quite simply couldn't live without
either of them....they are an integral part of our family
and our rescue efforts!

Our Chibouki is so special. He dosen't eat dog
food, only ham and liver... He dosen't like to be pushed
around...he has to go on his own rythme. He is ten years
old, and he is so intelligent, I have never seen this.
He gives us hug when we ask him to, he scrathes our back
when we are feeling itchy, if you don't want to bend over
to pick him up, just say jump and ...hop... he's in your
arms. It's a little dog. In French, we say "Bichon", but
I don't know the exact name in english. Sometimes, he
is dirty (you know, when he goes outside to do his duty)
and he is offended by the fact that we want to see if
he is clean or not. For a piece of chocolate, he'll attempt
to say "mama", he can dance and turn around when you ask
him to. He pretty much do it all and he's the best!
I live with three dogs and a bunny names Krystal Marie.
They are my best friends. Johnston is a Chow mix,
and looks more like a black lab with a black tongue and
weighs 66 pounds. Dezzert Marie is a Chihuahua
mix with Basenji and is tri-colored and weighs about 10
pounds and has a curly tail like a pig. Theo James
is a Poodle mix and he weighs almost 8 pounds. Last but
not least is Krystal Marie and she is a dutch bunny steel
grey and white. All of my animals are in-door animals
and all get along. I really enjoy this site and will visit
often.
Sheeba is a beautiful Siberian Husky. She is 9
years old now, but still frisky and in great health. I
had to leave home 5 years ago for university so I only
get to see her for a few weeks a year. But when I am in
school, my walls are plastered with pictures of her, and
when I am on a work term, they are all over my cubicle!
I tell everyone who will listen just how much I love and
miss her. Sheeba is about 70 lbs but she still sleeps
in bed with me when I am home. The first time that I went
away, I remember asking my father if Sheeba still slept
on my bed while I was gone. She didn't, she instead slept
every night on my bedroom floor. When I returned from
my first semester, four months had passed since I had
seen my dog. I nervously wondered if she would have forgotten
about me, or if she would be angry with me. As soon as
I walked into the house, she looked at me and went the
other way. I was understandably hurt. It wasn't until
5 or 10 minutes later that I realized where she had gone.
As I layed my suit case on my bedroom floor, I saw her
lying on my bed, wagging her tail and waiting for me!
What a homecoming!!
If you are considering getting
a dog, give a dog a chance at life, go to your local shelter.
They need our help!!! Most animals there are unwanted
and are destroyed in a couple of days.
