From the Owner:
I would like to enter our boy Logan in your big dog contest. We rescued Logan after we lost our beloved Sheltie, Hobie to cancer on Christmas day. He is our love, and even if he doesn't win, we want to share his story with you.

Thank you,

Logan's Story - In His Words...

Hello, my name is Logan David. I would appreciate it if you don't laugh at me because I'm wearing this hat. It wasn't my idea to begin with. I was born 1/13/98 and am a Golden Retriever and Great White Pyrenees mix. I came to live with my Mom and Dad on my first birthday, January 13, 1999.

My previous owners were very unkind and hit and kicked me a lot. I withdrew, and was then handed over to a place called The Humane Society of Hernando County. Everyone thought I was quite an attractive fellow and called me "Bear", as they thought I looked like a polar bear. I knew all the people that came and went wanted to pet me, but I was so afraid of all people. A lady did come one day, overlooked my shyness and took me home. I can't say I was treated badly in my new home, but I just didn't want to be touched. This lady's Mom was very frightened of me because of my size and due to that and my shyness I quickly went back to the cage at the Humane Society.

The days and weeks passed and I continued to shy away from everyone that would come to my cage. I had decided that I would just stay here with my fellow canine friends. Some may consider this a life sentence in prison, but I was protected from human fists and kicking feet. Then it happened... one afternoon this new lady came to talk to me. She wouldn't go away no matter how I tried to show her how shy I am. She put a leash on me and took me for a walk, talking to me in a soft voice the entire time. She didn't force hugging or petting on me, so I enjoyed walking around sniffing outside of that cage. To my great surprise, the next thing I knew, I was being loaded up in her car and taken to another new home.

The first few weeks I was so frightened...but my new parents were very patient humans. Something I really wasn't used to at all. Then, my new Mom hired a man she called a "trainer". His name is Dan Hill and he came once a week to see me. Mom called it my "work". They put a special collar and leash on me and took me outside. They would walk, then give me a voice command while showing me what to do. It was quite simple really, and I obliged them. I heard the words, "good boy" a lot and got gentle pats and ear scratches. Dan even told Mom that contrary to Dad's popular belief, I did not "ride the short bus home". I don't know what that means, but I took it as a good thing because Mom praised me a lot.

I know now that I am here to stay and that I would never be hit or kicked by my new parents. My shyness is "almost" completely gone with Mom and Dad, though I still run pretty much from strangers. I have two other dog kids to play with and three cats, (I can take or leave the cats). I am a very happy boy now and have discovered that there are indeed nice humans in this world.

dogs Our Chibouki is so special. He dosen't eat dog food, only ham and liver... He dosen't like to be pushed around...he has to go on his own rythme. He is ten years old, and he is so intelligent, I have never seen this. He gives us hug when we ask him to, he scrathes our back when we are feeling itchy, if you don't want to bend over to pick him up, just say jump and ...hop... he's in your arms. It's a little dog. In French, we say "Bichon", but I don't know the exact name in english. Sometimes, he is dirty (you know, when he goes outside to do his duty) and he is offended by the fact that we want to see if he is clean or not. For a piece of chocolate, he'll attempt to say "mama", he can dance and turn around when you ask him to. He pretty much do it all and he's the best!

dogs I live with three dogs and a bunny names Krystal Marie. They are my best friends. Johnston is a Chow mix, and looks more like a black lab with a black tongue and weighs 66 pounds. Dezzert Marie is a Chihuahua mix with Basenji and is tri-colored and weighs about 10 pounds and has a curly tail like a pig. Theo James is a Poodle mix and he weighs almost 8 pounds. Last but not least is Krystal Marie and she is a dutch bunny steel grey and white. All of my animals are in-door animals and all get along. I really enjoy this site and will visit often.

dogs Jessie is a German Sheppard Husky. She is 5 years old and still acts like a puppy. She is very intelligent and has a great personality. She is very well liked wherever she goes and knows exactly how to get a pet no matter what. She enjoys long walks, swimming, camping, running in the snow, playing fetch without giving back item. She can catch a variety of items, she likes to talk especially when ordering at the drive thru where she gets a treat every time. She is very silly. Her favourite treats are minty and variety milkbones but nothing could ever beat cheese. Jessie is a very good girl always has been, never a big chewer and easy to train. She's protective, loyal, very loveable, and only barks when necessary. Jessie from what the veterinarian said has what they call Collie nose, something that never gets cured. We love Jessie very much and could go on forever on telling you about how great she is. She's the best!

dogs My dog was a Chinese Shar-Pei named Otis. His middle name was Ah-Dah, that was already given to him when we got him. It means "The Special One" in Chinese. He was about 9 or 10 inches tall, maybe 5-7 wide. He weighed anywhere from 50-60 pounds, and LOVED to eat! He was a tan color, with a dark tan stripe going down his back. And was VERY wrinkly! You couldn't tell his head from his- well... And he had dark brown eyes, but in the light, it would look light brown. Sometimes And occasionally, blue. I say WAS, because he died of a kidney infection on Saturday, February 13, 1999. But he lived a long, happy life. He lived nearly eight years. That's very good for his dog species. It would have been his birthday in a few months, though, June the 29th. He was a loving dog. He never bit, scratched, dug, or barked uncontrollably. He was very laid-back, yet very protective. Also, whenever I was sick or down, he would lick me or comfort me in some other sweet and caring way. He was the best dog a kid could ever have. I love him, and I miss him, but I know we did the right thing by putting him to sleep. He was suffering too much. So I think of that as his early 8th birthday present. "I love you, Otis."

dogs I found May on the Middletown Humane Society Website. I just had tohave her. I went the next day and adopted her, just days before she would be destroyed. She brings so much love into our home, it makes me wonder what kind of people brought her to the Humane Society in the first place. She is great with the kids, yet protective, if someone she doesn't know comes in the house, until I say it's ok. She is the MOST affectionate, beautiful dog I have ever seen. We love her.

dogs Hi, I want to tell you about Rosie. I never had a pet of my own before. Rosie was in a home where she was neglected and improperly cared for. When rosie and I first met she was not into affection and to be honest I was a little afraid of her. She would stay in the attack stand. However, I saw past that and was determined to love her. And thank god i did. Rosie is teaching me ( a grown women) how to love again. I can not tell you how much my heart jumps when she wags her tail or snuggs up close to me. She has made me much more gentle. You see I don't and probably will not hit rosie, inspite of all of the advice I get to do so. I have found that rosie responds to a simple voice cahange. rosie lick lets me know that there is a god and he made animals to be angels on four paws. She is showing me that a simple run threw the grass is a treat. When we are walking and she looks up at me I feel warm inside. her bark is like music to my sometimes heavy heart. Thank god for my Rosie. She needs me but not half as much as I need her.

dogs Our weinerdog Delilah had a bad habit of sleeping on my best living room chair. We could always tell when we came home, because the chair was still warm. A local gas station gave away inflatable Santas and snowmen one Christmas. We got a snowman. I blew it up and set it on the chair. A little while later the dog saw it and went nuts, growling and baring her teeth at it. We had found our secret weapon to keep her off the chair...temporarily. After about 3 months she had had enough. One night we came home and the snowman was on the floor torn to shreds. She won, we lost.

dogs Hi i think your web site is very interesting and i love all of the cool pics you show on it too!
Well any way my dog Penny, and she is my best friend. She is a chubby, adorable, friendly and a very loving PUG. I think Penny is the best dog in the world!!!!!!!! Penny can do all sorts of tricks like sit, lay down, stay, dance, speak and she catches the treats in her mouth from a very far distance. She is almost four years old but she is still learning many new tricks (I'm having a little trouble with roll over) but she is a very smart pug. The reason why I entered my dog is because I think Penny deserves to win a contest, but not because she can do tricks because she is the best friend and companion I've ever seen.
P.S I don't have a picture of penny but she is a lighter coloured pug with a darker face and black ears.

dogs Shadow is a 5yr. old female American Pit Bull Terrier. She is the total opposite of what the media portrays Pits. She is the ultimate protector and companion to my family. I spent lots of time training her and she is VERY OBIEDIENT. If you tell her to smile, she'll lift up her jowl and show you her teeth. She is non aggressisve with other dogs (but she hates cats) She is all black with a marking shaped like a heart in white on her chest. So if you are considering family protection, companionship and a great overall dog, look no further. Pits have very high intellegence and are extremely loyal and trainable. You only hear bad things about these dogs. It's not the dog, it's the owners. Even a Toy Poodle can be nasty! ALSO VERY IMPORTANT:

If you are considering getting a dog, give a dog a chance at life, go to your local shelter. They need our help!!! Most animals there are unwanted and are destroyed in a couple of days.
