Talk
From the Owner:
Dog lovers,
Here is a nice picture of our beloved girl Roxanne (Rox
for short). She is a18 months old now and I really think
she is a wonderful dog and of a misunderstood breed. The
American Bulldog is the last of the original bull baiting
dogs of England. They were brought to America with the
original settlers as protection and general purpose farm
dogs. We employ Rox as a companion with all the protection
as a side benefit. Hopefully we will never need her to
drop a bull!

Rox
Roxanne is not a American Pit Bull Terrier, rather
she is a American Bulldog.
The American Bulldog is the original fighting bulldog
of bull baiting fame. These dogs were developed during
a time when animal cruelty was not recognized. The dogs
were originally used as a butcher's helper. Aiding in
the control of the bulls during there slaughter. They
would fearlessly do as there masters asked, attack and
seize the bull by its nose and drop it to the earth. Later
it was used to battle bulls and other large mammals in
the arena. This was a big part of English culture as well
as other European countries. These dogs were bred to endure
great pain and always accept treatment from there handlers
without complaint. This factor is what has made these
animals and there descendants excellent companions. They
have been bred to trust humans especially when in excruciating
pain.
When bull baiting was outlawed they were used as pit fighting
dogs versus other dogs, but they were to large to be contained
and controlled quickly. Dog fighting has always been illegal,
if the police were to bust the fight the animal had to
be small enough to conceal quickly. This was one of the
major reasons the original pit fighters began to develop
the smaller Bull and Terrier breeds. They began by crossing
the Bulldog with several different Terriers. The Staffordshire
Bull Terrier was developed first, shortly after the Bull
Terrier was created by adding more Terrier blood to the
Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Eventually the American Pit
Bull Terrier and American Staffordshire Terrier were developed
from the original taffordshire Bull Terrier stock.
The dog known as "Bulldog" (the English Bulldog) today
is actually an exaggerated version of the original. With
a overly large head, shorter wider appearance. This was
achieved through the show ring as certain traits were
bred for to win shows. This animal could never do what
its ancestors have done, it is physically incapable. It
does retain its endurance for pain, courage, and strong
bond to people.
Enter the American Bulldog. When america was originally
settled the true working Bulldog was brought over, resuming
his original duties and also used as a "gang buster" to
attack and kill the pack leaders of invading wild dogs.
Once the leader had fallen the rest of the pack would
disperse, saving the livestock from harm. The numbers
of these true bulldogs were still small and they went
unnoticed by most as they were working dogs and not show
dogs. The popularity of this breed is slowly growing.
They are not recognized by most of the major kennel clubs,
but there are a few clubs that can date there pedigree's
back to the forties and beyond. These dogs breed true
to there original form and are relatively unchanged from
the Bulldogs of the 1700's.
I hope I have not bored the daylight's out of you, but
it is a very difficult history to understand otherwise.
All of this in mind I stand by my original statements
about the character of these wonderful breeds. They all
have one thing in common and that is a desire to please
there master. Unfortunately animals that have been breed
for combat and will do anything to please can be dangerous
in the wrong hands, but the breed of animal is not to
blame it is the fool who abuses it.

Kandi is a Australian Shepherd and Collie mix.
She was born on St. Patrick's Day 1998 and adopted on
The Fourth of July that same year (We almost named her
Holiday). When we adopted her from a single mom who couldn't
afford her upkeep, we discovered that our new puppy's
slight limp was actually a broken leg. The family vet
believes she was kicked, but we just can't imagine anyone
hurting anything so cute. Poor Kandi spent her first few
months in her new home crated and wearing a cast. But
it sure doesn't seem to have hurt her any. She's the sweetest
gal on four legs and she interacts very well with her
three feline Siblings (Saber, Charlie & Bonkers). She's
definitely the outdoorsy type, tagging along with dad
on his bass boat every chance she gets. And she has a
mischievous side too...poking her nose into the pet door
that seperates her from the kitty lounge (Hey, we had
to seperate their food somehow!). She has one blue and
one brown eye ...
Hi, I'm Guthrie. I am 11-months-old and am a Blue
Merle Collie. People think I'm a lot older because I have
grey in my muzzle but that is just because I have very
unusual markings. I am originally from Pittsburgh, PA
but I have been transplanted to Reading, Pa with my new,
loving owners. I passed some herding tests but currently
I just romp playfully around my neighborhood, karate spar,
and sometimes hang out with a hugh bunch of dogs near
the Appalachian Trail here in PA. I have quite an impressive
bloodline but due to a few little differences God decided
to give me, I can't be shown in the "big" shows. My owners
tell me I'm just perfect though.
Our baby is a 9 1/2yr old Chow-Chow. She is very loving,
loyal and has a great disposition. She considers herself
to be a lap dog even though she's 50 + pounds. She is
so much more than just a dog she is a little human who
is very much a part of our family. We love and cherish
her always. You have a very nice page!!!
Our names are Daisy and Duke. We should have been
named Bonnie and Clyde. We like to chew and get into anything:
rocks, shoes, plastic, stuffed animals, wood, and especially
money!! But, we always get away with everything. Our owner
can't resist our cute faces and little pink noses. When
our owner is eating, we each rest our heads on her knees
and look up with our big, pitiful green eyes. This usually
gets us a morsel or two. We know lots of tricks: "sit",
"shake", "spin around", "lay down", "stay", and "speak".
Bye...
My dog is absolutely loved! He has over 80 toys in his
own toybox. His birthday is Feb. 5th. He has a birthday
on the 5th with the family, and the next day we invite
friends over and have another party. He gets presents,
too. For Christmas last year he had 42 presents under
the tree. (Not counting the ones he snuck and opened.)
I train him the basic tricks like stay, come, and sit.
I have also taught him to catch, roll-over, play dead,
and other tricks. Some tricks he doesn't do, but I don't
make him do them. I just want him to know the important
commands. He sleeps in my bed every night. I buy him nerf
balls when I go to Wal-Mart. He likes to chew him up.
I truly love my mutt pup. He's four years old and has
never bit anyone. He's part Lhaso Aupso and long-haired
Daucshand. He's the most loved dog in the world! My computer
broke and I don't have a picture. He's cute, black, along,
and fuzzy.
My dog's heritage is Australian Shepherd and Dalmation.
He has the fur of a Dalmation and the colorings of a Blue
Merle Aussie with a few spots thrown in on his belly.
I was told by the man in charge of transportation for
the school system that my children attend that my dog
has been seen sitting on a limb of a tree in our front
yard. Oreo has a 50' run that s connected to 2
maple trees and his house sits at the foot of one of the
trees. The school representative swore to me and my husband
that he watched our dog climb on top of his house (chasing
a bird), and onto a limb of the lowest branch. Who knows...
maybe he's part bird dog too.
My name is Lady and I'm a American PitBull/Rottweiler
mix and I'm 4 months old. I live in Canada with my mommy
and daddy. I love living with my mommy and daddy because
they love me very much. They give lots of great threats, they
bring me for long walks and they love to play ball with
me. And they love me so very much.
My dog, Pepe, is the best dog in the whole world.
He is a black lab/shepard mix about 75-100lbs. He a good
friend, companion, and protector. Even though he's a little
too big for our small duplex, he doesnt seem to mind just
as long as he gets to spend time with us.
Hi, My name is Pepper. I am a toy poodle. I am
4 years old. My favorite pass time is playing ball. I
love taking walks too. My favorite treat is macaroni and
cheese. I love my pet humans Kris Tom and Megan.
Bailey is a happy,gentle,active and gorgeous Keeshond/Elkhound
mix and was adopted by my daughter and I after awoman
came into a pet store with him to show the owner his burnt
and blistered paw pads. He wandered onto her property
and she brought him there because the owner of the store
told her that he would look at his paws asshe could not
get a vet appt. at the time. We had just lost our sweet
Sheltie, Katie Scarlett, she was only 1 week shy of her
1st birthday.] I fell in love with Bailey immediately
and exchanged phone #'s with the lady who found him. She
called and said she couldn't keep him [she already had
2 dogs at hme] I told her yes, I will take him[she was
going to bring him to the pound the next day, as her Corgi
& German Shepherd were picking on him} He came home with
me that night, joining a Chihuahua{Schatzi],that we rescued
from our local dog pound the day before. They are great
buddies and love to play doggie tag and cuddle & kiss
with each other. They both also love our 3 cats, and try
to get them to join in their dog games! I only wish I
rescue every homeless dog & cat out there, but every time
I look at them I feel blessed to have been given the chance
to know and love these two rescues! Thanks for being such
good canine friends!
Princess Tina Victoria Voss is a gift directly
from heaven! She arrived as a precious gift--in a white
picnic basket. She loves to be coo-ie and and is Very
full of love! She is the reason for a line of soft-sculpted
pet carriers in her mommy's business called FlowerBabies.
Tina is smaller than most cats, but don't tell her! She
wants to adopt a baby sister to keep her company.
He is a ? white Jack Russell Terrier. He is very smart.
He does upon command most things you tell him to do. He
has a small white bear he has had since birth and he knows
it by his baby and will continually bring it for you to
play with him. Also sleeps with it. You can tell him to
speak or talk ,and he will mount himself like a coyette
and howl until you tell him ok. He expects a bag with
a bone in it from our locl TSC store every time we go
to town. To me he's human. Thanks.
Max is 15 months old. He loves to be chased and to play
ball. He goes for a morning swim when the weather is warmer
and loves to have the neighbors dogs visit. He loves everyone
he meets and each day is an adventure for him. He is spoiled
rotten. I love him to pieces He is always kissing me.
