For double coated dogs... I don't know. Marsh wears a gundog supply, but it breaks his coat. I might put Pilot in rolled leather when he's grown. Right now he is in a harness or nekkid puppy. Center ring is really convenient though.

I like different ones for different reasons. Biothane for it's no fuss wearing, fabric collars for their patterns, leather for it's durability and "looks better with age" quality.

If I had to pick 1 type to stick with forever & ever, it would be leather.

I really love leather. I do own biothane for water fun, but even my swimmer isn't in water terribly often. Leather is typically my go to.

That being said, my Amstaff wears a lot of Stillwater Kennel supply collars, which I think are nylon? They're the super heavy duty seatbelt type collars. They're incredibly tough, inexpensive, and I don't worry about him ruining them like expensive collars.

We've used a few different collars over the last 2 years.

Toby's first collar was a brown fabric collar that he came to us with. We couldn't get the buckle undone though and ended up having to cut it off our then 11 week old puppy.

His replacement collar was a green kong collar.
It got pretty worn out and dirty looking no matter how many times you washed it so I replaced it with a blue kong collar and matching leash.

The blue kong collar started to fray in some places and the rubber bit on the collar that said 'kong' was peeling off... I didn't like it looking so worn out, and I didn't feel like purchasing another collar, so I put my DIY skills to the test and made a paracord collar for him. I think it was about 2 months afterwards that he actually ate it... and was rushed into the vet for xrays as I was extremely concerned about the buckle slashing open his innards.... $250.00 later, we had some fantastic xray photo's of gas and poop.

I made a second paracord collar, and we used that for a while. It was when I became bored of the look of it and Toby's FB page had exploded with love for him that I decided he needed something more stylish and he was given his first leather collar. Red with silver bones around it.

Honestly, of the fabric, paracord and now leather collars.... I am really preferring the leather. It's more attractive and much easier to clean. A quick wipe is really all it needs and I can slip it off him quickly/easily if his buddies are trying to chew it during play.
