i fell in love with pit bulls when i was working in a boarding kennel. first and foremost i love their utter social butterfly-ness. i love their confidence, their athleticism, their intelligence. and i have to admit, i'm a sucker for the unfairly discriminated against. i have a preference for a medium-sized dog, though that's less of a consideration than the rest of it. it was also important to me to be able to acquire the dog through a rescue/shelter relatively easily. i don't think i could have dealt with having to wait months and months when i finally decided it was time.

Buddy is a rescue. I was looking at the puppies and he was just laying in his cage, looking all sad.

I opened his cage and he immediately began to lick me and jump up and down. Then, he looked in my eyes and I knew that that boy was mine. He pulled at my heartstrings and still does...

Molly is a rescue...we didn't care what breed we got, we just wanted a dog. We had looked at dobermans, german shepherds, and a few others...we were looking through the paper and a rescue had an ad about Molly...so we went to see her and ended up bringing her home. But now we know how wonderful boxers are, so because of her my mom has found "her" breed. :)

Lucy's a mutt. Unfortunately a mutt from a "breeder." I have never been a fan of bichons or poodles, which is what she is a mix of, so you would think she wouldn't appeal to me lol. When we saw her though we knew we had to get her...
I've always been a fan of mutts though. :)

I have a yorkie and a Chihuahua. We live in an apartment so we could only have small dogs and these two are just so precious.

I have labradors simply because they are all around great dogs. They are often mistaken as being dumb and goofy. I love going to public places and playing fetch with them. People stop and watch and often end up talking to us and complimenting on how smart and beautiful our dogs are. Yes they can be lil goofballs or clowns but man are the smart! Most are easily trained because they want to please. They dont really have thier own agenda but some do.

I also love cocker spaniels. They are also very smart dogs. They come off as being independant and barky. I had one as a rescue who thought she was a lab! She fetched and swam with all our big labbies. We really miss her. We were almost foster failures with her.

The Australian Cattle Dog beucase they are protective, loyal, intelligent and energetic. They love being with their people, and are a one person dog (I don't like to share :p ;) ). They just seem to fit my lifestyle... And they are a beautiful, uncommon breed. :)

I researched the breed and looked for a good breeder or almost over a year before I finally found the perfect Cocker Spaniel puppy. I'd always loved cockers, I've had two in the past, and it was a math made in heaven ;) I like Cocker's activity level, their merry temperment, their size, ect. I think dogs who can run [like a] working dog one minute and cuddle like a lap dog the next are perect

After the loss of Nikki, the house felt kind of empty despite the in and out of foster dogs. I decided it was time for another dog, and started researching breeds. I did one of the best things I could've done - I posted on Chaz asking what dog breed I should consider. Someone very very smart suggested a GSD... and boy was she right on! ;) A couple of weeks - a month later (not really sure) I heard there was a GSD at a dog pound over an hour away. She was an outside dog, but I knew she would learn quick and I could teach her. Again, a match made in heaven. I love GSD's loyalty, strenght, natural protectiveness and intellegence

I've always liked Corgi's, but this was an on a whim rescue. We were in FL because my grandfather was having hip replacement surgery. I brought Charlie all the way home from FL to OH in my little car
:D

I fell for Australian Shepherds when I was 12 and worked with a hearing dog in training. She was the smartest dog in the bunch, sweet, responsive, velcro-y... I was in love in about five seconds. I had a dog-aggressive golden/chow mix at the time, so I couldn't have another dog. When Bear died last year, I started looking into rescuing another dog, preferably a puppy. I emailed a rescue about this gorgeous little puppy, but they told me he was adopted already--but they did have another litter, Aussie mixes, if I was interested. Their mom was a purebred black-tri Aussie, dumped at a shelter pregnant, where she gave birth to 9 puppies (seven lived, and not a one looked at all Aussie at all, LOL). I went up to look at the puppies, quickly lost my puppy lust and took momma home instead (once the puppies were weaned). Best decision ever. I can't imagine a more perfect breed for me - working ability, incredible intelligence, big clowns, and they have an off-switch, LOL.

Mary pointer/labrador

she is the last of the line from the kennels where i worked. Of course he didn't breed mixed, the kennel wasn't responsible for this breeding, but her mammie was from a favorite pair of parent that i grew up with.

Well let's see: Three Australian Shepherds, Two Australian Kelpies, Two Catahoulas, One Black Lab, and One Lab/Viszla Mix. They're all working cattle dogs (even the Lab) with the Shepherds primarily used for goats. The Lab is used for both waterfowl and upland bird retrieval.

Doberman- My first dog I got on my own was a Doberman. His name was Apollo. He was smart. A very good dog. My dad always had dobermans and german shepherds growing up so when I was a kid we had dobes. I like them because of their build and intelligents. If I get another dog I want a red doberman. Never had a red.

Rottweiler- Never had one as a kid but always was very impressed when I would see a large one. How I got my rotti was unique. My wife and I were driving at the peninsula and we seen a man and woman walking the biggest rottweiler I ever saw. It was weird. I turned around and went back without thinking. We got out and had to tell these people what an impressive dog they had. It's name was Kane. He was a german rottweiler. We were not really looking for a dog but they told us there was another batch of puppies ready in a few weeks. They gave us the phone number. We got first pick because we knew about them early. It was a hard choice out of 11 pups. We chose the largest one. And to my surprise he grew up and was even larger then the one we saw at the beach. He got to 155lbs in his prime. Will get another some day but not now.

German Shepherd- Had one as a kid. I like their attitude. When I got Kramer I was looking for a doberman but all the dobermans I looked at didn't impress me. For the heck of it we looked at some shepherds in the paper. There was about 12 puppies. We were looking at them a very long time trying to decide. And we chose one because of his face and awareness. As a puppy I didn't even have to train him. He caught on by watching the other dog. He is very smart.
