Does anyone have a clip of the segment so I can hear what she said in context, as opposed to written into an article?

I checked youtube and the Yahoo news and didn't find it. I'm looking at the network site now. If you have a link...do share :)

Hmm checked there, no luck. Youtube will likely have it at some point even if only for a second or two LOL. ABC is usually quick to yank and grab their stuff off there...lol.

I'll find it. ;)

I'm not really a fan of her political views. I certainly don't like minimizing the crimes that Vick admitted to doing.

Its a shame for things to be seen in context? I would think that would be a good thing. But it is sad that anyone makes any excuse (no matter how small) for this issue.

I didn't take it as Whoopi defending him because she said several times that it doesn't excuse his actions. I do understand what she was saying and she did make some good points...............

Red...agreed. ;)

I think the View needs to stop trying to replace Star Jones and just go with those 3 ladies that all seem to agree with one another lol.

After seeing the clip, I still think Whoopie was defending him, even though she said she wasn't. She was saying since it's a cultural thing in the south and he was brought up around it, it's not really his fault. Well, I disagree. Torturing, raping, electrocuting dogs and watching them destroy each other for sport is just inherently evil. It's basic right and wrong.

He's sorry he got caught and he's sorry he will be losing lots of money. He is not sorry for what he did to these dogs. Why would he be....it's in his culture......SICKO!!!!

I think the whole "Cultural" Thing is 98% BS. He knew it was illegal and hid it and lied about it. The Blond (sorry don't know her name) hit right on the head. Beating you wife is just fine in some cultures...should we over look that or "Understand" it when the do that at the airport...I think not.

Welcome to America in the 21st century, some barbaric things are illegal and disgusting.

some people will always be blind in certain eras this is one of em. It's a shame they don't think anything of it & they have no concept of any being harm done

Certain people have no knowledge about abuse. Their attiude about dogs are "it's just a dog" "dogs have no feeling" what not some farms kick & beat the dog if ever being irritated by them.

It's sad of what the society are gonna teach the young ones in near future as well

That'd be why they get arrested and punished...which is what Whoopi said needs to happen, and should happen.

But she also doesn't have her head in the sand and knows, regardless of if Vick was given 1 year or 10...it will continue...because it is ingrained...within a certain framework of society. And, until that society is dealt with not with prison and laws, but real community centered, grassroots, solutions...there is no hope for real change.

That is "all" she was actually saying...but it's hard for some people to hear something and take it for what it is...information...not an excuse or defense.

She in fact offers us a challenge...WHAT can you do? WHAT can I do...to effect change that is lasting in those communities where kids grow up thinking this is "okay" ?

Isn't there a trainer that goes to inner city youth and teaching weight pull and such? WHY aren't HSUS and PETA out there doing something similar, do they run programs on dog awareness in inner city schools? I ask honestly because I do not know? What can we do...because we all know how GREAT the threat of prison and a criminal record, works as a deterrent in say, the war on drugs, ;)

She made me think...and honestly...that's great, IMO.

LOL like the HSUS and PETA acutally want people to do things with animals. They want to make owning pets a thing of the past.

But yes changing the culture is the key.

Well yeah...I totally know that LOL. PeTA has said all Pits should be gone anyhow...but really...WHO can put these IMO vital programs in schools...I guess local shelters? I know some private folks who do this...but I always wonder if the neighborhoods most in need, get anything like this?

There is a restaurant in Gloucester Mass called Captain Carlo's that at least USED to be co-owned by Whoopi. I looked on their website and it just says that it's owned by local fisherman, so I sent an email to be sure. IF she does still co-own it you'd best believe I'll be pulling an all out boycott of everything and anything Captain Carlo's. This disgusts me.

I haven't been able to download the actual " talk " ....if she's defending culture ---- fine . If she's supporting him --- NO!! I don't think some African tribes should stretch children's ears and lips either . Many sacrifice animals in their prayers . But Vic definately was using poor dogs for betting which is an American NO-No and he is an American !! He has a lot to make up for his poor choices !
