First, all corgi owners please sit down before reading this.... I'd hate for someone to hurt themselves falling down from shock.

The little man is way too thin.... I'm also having trouble getting him to eat his food.

He gets 50/50 evo & totw dry. He seems to have lost interest in the food and leaves a lot in the bowl.... Although maybe that's bc he's not eating as much bc he's not a puppy puppy anymore?

I've started experimenting with mixing in wet, but he still doesn't eat it all.

I'm thinking of giving him some peanut butter every day to fatten him up a bit.

The only thing is that I want to make sure he's getting the nutrients he needs bc he doesn't eat that much.... So I was wondering if anyone has any high
calorie, but nutrient rich food ideas for me.

He does have an appt with a specialist at the end of the month for some blood tests to see if he's eating the amount needed to make him full but not properly digesting it.

Try adding egg yolk, that always gets Izzy to eat her food even after she lost interest in her TOTW. Also, do you have anywhere you can get nutrical? That's always supposed to help dogs put on weight/keep up their calorie count.

Yeah.... There was actually an egg in yesterday's food, and he left like 90% of the bowl.... But I also mixed in a wet that i'm starting to think he doesn't like.

I'll look the nutrical up online... I'm sure entirelypets or something has it...

I think even places like petsmart carry nutrical if you have one in the area. Also, you could try giving puppy milk replacer stuff. I know it works great for putting weight on cats.

Good luck!

We were dog sitting a picky eater last week...sprinkling a little grated cheese on top sparked his interest again, and he'd eat.

Probably wishful thinking that it's that easy though...

I'd add fresh protein (maybe some nice fatty hamburger or lamb) to his dry. He should eat it right up. :) You could also add a tablespoon of coconut oil daily (it'll help with his coat, too :)).

There are a few different Nutri Cals, all pretty much the same. But most vets carry it. I know I have used the puppy formula, and it worked really well.

Thanks for the ideas everyone. :)

Merico, I was thinking of making satin balls and just adding in a multi-vit/mineral supp.... the only problem is that I can't keep him on that forever, it would drain my wallet dry in no time. The price of any type of chop meat around here is insane..

Cali, any idea that may work is always appreciated! :)

Bailey, the wet that we're kinda doing ok with is actually wellness 95% lamb... and as far as fresh... it's the same situation with the satin balls... I can do it to at least fatten him up... but I won't be able to keep doing it for long do to the $$$ of it.

Unfortunatly, my budget has gone through several belt tightenings in the past few months... :(

I have had good luck using canned Wellness, the Duck and Sweet Potato for putting on weight. They also seem to love it.

My girl when she had her pups recently, got a little picky when the pups were 2 wks old. She had been on puppy food plus rice and beef. When I added the canned Duck, she loved it and actually gained weight at a time when she was at peak lactation.

Good luck

*gasp* An underweight Corgi! Isn't that an oxymoron?

haha... I wish I had the same problem with Fozzie. :p For putting weight on, I would feed RMB's if possible, fatty stuff like chicken and pork. You CAN simply add meats to his kibble, but without any bone, that's going to be unbalanced if fed consistently. Canned food can be super expensive, way moreso than buying supplemental raw, but Natural Balance canned is like $1/can and it's good quality.

hog fat rules! Seriously- fatty pork shoulder and the real cheap high fat content hamburger will help. I had a real hard time keeping weight on Daisy when she was younger- she was eating 5lbs of food a day at 100lbs bodyweight. I used a lot of high fat meats to help her out.

:rofl1: I know! That's why I told everyone to sit down first!! :rofl1:

Natural Balance huh? I'll have to try that... and believe it or not, the canned wellness is about 1/2 the price of raw ground meat! It's that expensive around here!

Dan, how did Daisy do with the pork fat? I was thinking of buying the fattiest pieces of pork and just kind of mixing a little bit in with each meal... just to kind of jack up the fat content without messing with the nutritonal value...

Wow. Is it just ground meat that is expensive? You could always buy chunks of meat to substitute the ground.

Has Midget ever been fed raw? Fatty pork, for dogs without lots of good flora, often equals BAD DIARRHEA. D: I would grab a good digestive enzyme supplement first, or lots of pumpkin and yogurt.

Yeah, the fatty meat is probably not a good idea if your dogs are not already used to a raw diet.

Daisy did well on the pork. I get shoulder butts that have the bone in them, and they have a good layer of fat on the outside and marbled fat inside. I'll give her and Gunnar a 2-3 lb hunk with the bone in it for a meal, and then feed the rest as muscle meat until it's gone.

It was hard getting her to keep weight on until she matured some though. She's very active due to Gunnar's activity level, and when she was growing along with the activity, she was like a marathon runner, just eating and eating and never gaining anything.

You can see from the pics I posted in the pictures forum that she's still lean but she's not as bony as she used to be. I've cut her back to about 3lbs a day now.

ok, so I typed out this big long post earlier... than chaz logged me out and I lost it!!!

I don't really feel like typing it again... so...

He's getting nutrical and he seems to really like the canned instinct rabbit, we are also going to try the dry instint rabbit. If the prices aren't too high, I may buy some of the premade raw to mix in and give it a bit more flavor....

we'll see how it goes...

Try Dyne. You will probably have to order it. It can be frozen into a kong and given as a treat or drizzled over the dogs food. You can also just syringe some into his mouth if needed.

Its cheaper than nutrical too.

Keely is a picky eater and when she starts to turn off from her food, I crush a marrobone (Seriously, crush it to powder) and mix it with the food. and she eats it all up.
