Barbara, find me one credentialed trainer anywhere who advocates slapping the dog with a leash or smacking them on the nose. ABC, CPDT, KPA....

What about my dog? She hits ME in the head when she wants something. :p
I don't know did positive reinforcement not work on you??

But I know how that goes. I woke up Sunday to Yoshi pawing my face to get me to move over and share the pillow -.-

I don't think Mia has ever tried positive reinforcement. Her little mind seems to go straight into inflicting punishment.

Mia is a brute, she should probably be punished, send her to me. Thanks.
Haha you can have her today.

Here's another of mine -- I train the cr@p out of my puppy. I know that some people don't, but, man, I couldn't handle evil bitey puppy for too long, and we started working on impulse control right away.

I also crate her more than I thought I would, but I really think it's the best approach for us. She needs to learn how to calm herself down and be bored, and I'm not the best trainer I can/want to be when I'm frustrated by nonstop, ongoing puppy antics. Thankfully the crazies have gotten much better!

I teach an out right away. Drives me nuts when a dog won't let go of a toy or tug when asked.

I train for too long at once. This is a rule of mine I break ALL THE TIME. Keep training sessions short! Don't train too long! Oh, we've been doing this for 15 minutes straight? Oops!

Every. Single. Time.

Didgie is helping me break myself of this though because she'll get distracted by god knows what and wander off.

UGH I do that too. Having the two dogs helps because I can switch back and forth so it keeps stuff a bit shorter, but... whoops. SO BAD.
I need to just get an egg timer and put it with the clicker, and set the egg timer every time I pick up the clicker.
