For me personally- a lot of grain, not enough cals/cups and protein % not what I'd like to see. But it's not horrible.

I'm thinking of going raw for them. We feed them purina puppy puppy chow, but i looked at the ingredients and its nothing but grains!! Sly hardly eats and everyone thinks he's very skinny including me.

Purina is NOT a good food at all so the sooner you get him off of it, the better. A lot of people here feed Canidae. It is one of the lower-priced good quality foods. There are several others. If you browse around the Food section, you'll find tons of info.

It is pretty grain heavy - at least they are good grains, but I still would be concerned about the lack of animal protein.

That food looks very grain heavy. It's a big step up from Purina Puppy Chow, but there are much better foods out there that are probably in that same price range.

the nearest place to get canidae is 2 hrs. away and my mom won't buy anything off the internet. We will probably try to get innova. there's a place close to where my dad works that has it, but i still like the idea of going raw.
We also put in 3V caps which is fish oil because sly has some weird skin alergy where his skin gets al crusty and his hair falls out, but its not mange. the fish oil helps. would the high wheat in purina have something to do with it?

here's an article i read about what's essential in a dog's diet. i found it really useful. i have a basset hound and i dont have any problems on feeding her. actually im even thinking of lessening her food because she's gaining to much weight. lol

anyway, here's the link. hope this proves useful.

Just wanted to say good luck with the raw! The first week was more nerve-wrecking for me than anything. I knew what I was doing, just was nervous! And now I'll never ever turn back !! :D
Anyway, good luck!
