One of my best friends has this crock pot on her registry & my roomie and I want to get it for her cause she is always taking our crock pot...so we thought it would be funny.

The thing is, I looked at reviews for it on amazon (cause I am like OCD about buying stuff)...and the reviews are HORRIBLE. like 2 stars for 15 reviews. Everyone is saying that the temp is off & it burns the food. here it is: rival crockpot

is it appropriate to get another one? Apparently you can just call bed, bath & beyond & tell them to mark an item as bought, so I could always do that.

But I just feel bad telling her she picked a crappy product...plus, she always gets annoyed when I'm talking about reviews (which, umm, i dont get...why WOULDNT you look at reviews...but thats another story).

What do you guys think?

well I am sure if the pot is crap she would come back you using yours :) so I would try to find a better one in that price range. Call bed bath and beyond and say the pot has been bought. I am sure she would not even know the difference that it was not bought from there.

I dunno, I'd buy the one on her registry. If she ends up wanting to return it for some reason, it could be a huge hassle if it wasn't on the registry. If you do go off the registry, I'd make sure to include the receipt and buy it from a store that is easy to return to.

Most registries won't allow you to take an item off the registry unless you have proof of purchase (of that exact item). I'd be surprised if they allowed that actually, because Uncle Bob may call up and say "Oh, I got them that china set." and have it removed from the registry, when in fact he purchased the cheapest stuff on sale at WalMart.

I would buy the one from the registry, or if you want to buy her a better one accept the risk that she might end up with two Crock Pots.

I would buy the one from the registry. I'm sure she has enough going on and now probably isn't the best time to second guess her!

If she's like most who make a bridal registry, she won't remember just which crock pot is on her registry, and no one has to buy something off the registry.

She might get 2 crock pots, if you get her one that is not on the registry, but she'll take back the one she doesn't want (and the one she takes back might very well be the one she originally picked).

My daughter got duplicates of things that were on her registry. Apparently some people don't have the items they buy checked off.

Wellllll, most people only review an item if it really WOWS them or REALLY pisses them off, so I'd probably say that most of those crockpots are going to work just the way they're intended.

I've got a cheapo little crock pot from Walmart (like fifteen bucks, seriously) and it works great, so price isn't always a factor in things like that, and I've had it a couple years now, and we use it at least two to three times a month.

I have a 6-qt Rival crockpot and I love that darn thing. I've had it for 10 years and it's still going strong.

I'd just buy the one she picked out on her registry and let her decide. :)

I have a Rival crockpot too. It is ugly brown and from the 70's or early 80's and it works fine still. I'm guessing there's a lemon in every batch and those reviews are only a small percentage of crockpots sold. I think I'd get what is on her registry and if she doesn't like it, she can return it. Then you don't have to deal with this dilemma. Or....you could come right out and ask her. It's not like a big surprise since she's asking for one. Tell her that you might be able to find one that has better reviews, would she like that instead? I guess that would take some of the fun out of it though.

I know that I am really picky about what I choose and why I choose it. So if she is at all like that, then she wants the one she wants whether it is what somebody else thinks she should want or not . . . if that makes sense. :D
