Vacation?

What do you do when you go on vacation? I can't leave my dogs here and wouldnt do that. I need some advice, or just not go on vacation at all. thanks

I go camping, fishing etc. Only go places where my dogs can join me. Guess that would rule out many places but oh well. We are lucky enough to have a motor home so we can always stay where they too are welcome. Whiskey, Betty Jean and Sallyanne have been all over the states and love to travel. Allie will just be getting in on the traveling as she is a newcommer to our family but has already picked her spot in the motor home lol.

Why is it an "either/or" situation? Why not take the dogs with you? With so many places turning to the traveling pet segment of the travel industry, with a little imagination and some planning, it isn't that hard to do.

Years ago our vacations were a month with my family in Quebec and my dogs went to my Golden mentor.... mostly were part of the family inside. For horseshow weekends I had a neighbor in. Now it's either family for a days stay or a week at a great boarding kennel once a year. Otherwise, mine were always with me.

Do you have a close nieghbor you can trust? Family members?

I have a nieghbor I can trust and use when I am busy and away. Havent had a real vacation in over a year.

I dont have anyone I trust enough with my dogs. I had one i was gonna leave at a boarding kennel and I was gonna take the other. Heres the boarding kennel today. http://www.wate.com/Global/story.asp?S=5042034

I left her there once for a few hours during the day to get her hair cut. I'll never leave her anywhere like that again. That place burnt in the middle of the day. There was noone there and 10 animals died. 9 Dogs and one cat. Some of the dogs had been dropped off for grooming that day and others owners were on vacation.

You could hire a reputable Pet Sitter. Check out Pet Sitters International website to find one in your area:www.petsit.com. Interview them, ask a lot of questions and get lots of references.
There are a lot of wonderful Pet Sitters around and some not so great ones so don't go by who is the cheapest. Some Vets will also refer sitters.
It is a great alternative to boarding.
Maybe you could find a pet friendly hotel to stay in...

I leave my dogs with my mother. She loves to keep her "grand-pups" and I know they are in good hands. She's the only one I trust though, and if she can't do it then they go with me. I just don't trust strangers.
