So the vet thinks it is Osteochondritis Dissecans (OCD). She says she is not ruling out Pano right now but his shoulder seems to be the problem. He is on Rimadyl and she wants to give it a week or so to see how he does before having to sedate him for a shoulder x-ray, in case maybe it is Pano. She did an x-ray of his leg yesterday and that looked fine, but she said Pano is not always easy to diagnose. I am hoping it is Pano because I know OCD often requires surgery. AND he has whipworms. AND he has hookworms. :yikes: (Yes, Charlie is a poop-eater. Any ideas on how to get him to stop are appreciated. I've already tried meat tenderizer and De-Ter. I always try to keep the yard clean but I don't always find all of it!). So he's also doing a long course of dewormer.

Charlie was rescued from a puppymill and since I have had him, he has had:

Coccidiosis
Whipworms
Hookworms
Roundworms
Ringworm
Canine Influenza
Pneumonia
Demodex
Sarcoptic Mange
Staff infection

There is probably more but that's all I can remember right now. I knew he was going to have problems, coming from a puppy mill, but Geeeeeezzzzzz! I would love to get my hands around the neck of the crazy bi*ch that is running that place. It just makes me wonder about all of the hundreds of other puppies that have come out of there and probably had the same health problems. You can bet they didn't all go to homes that were willing to deal with it all. Charlie's vet knows both of us VERY well now.

I spoke to Charlie last night about getting himself a job to pay for some of this. He's thinking he'd like to try police work but I don't know. He seems like more of a manual labor kind of guy to me - maybe sled dog? :D Now I just have to find someone who'll pay him well for it, AND keep the poor guy healthy enough.

Poor Charlie. He has been through it, hasn't he. I hope he'll be OK and is easily treated. The Rimadyl should make him feel a lot better for now. Best wishes for his recovery.

Poor Charlie. I hope you are trying to get the mill shut down that would be great. Rimadyl does work wonders. I feel so bad for this little guy. Glad he has you to look after him.

Someone is trying to get it shut down, which is how Charlie came to me, through a friend who works at the vet's office. They got a call about this lady who had "rescued" a bunch of puppies from there. I'm not clear about the details of exactly how she "rescued" them and I'm not sure I want to know but she was calling around looking for people to take them in and that's how I got Charlie. I knew it was going to be difficult when I agreed to take him but I just can't imagine life without him now. He's my best buddy and I'll spend every penny I have getting him well if I have to.

Puppymill rescues can be so heartbreaking... it makes me angry, too, when I see a mill dog with a lot of health problems. Wringing the "breeders" neck is exactly what I'd like to do. Or maybe kick in their face. =P

I hope everything works out okay for Charlie!

I don't know if Charlie is ever going to be truly healthy. His vet and I had a long talk yesterday and the fact is that he just does not have much of an immune system. He gets sick at the drop of a hat. I guess I need to limit his interactions with other dogs more but it's hard because he loves to play with other dogs so much. And the neighborhood I live in has a lot of loose dogs that come up and "kiss" through Charlie's fence.

I don't know what I'm going to do about the worms now. I read that whipworms can live in the yard for up to 5 years so how am I to keep him from getting re-infected again and again?

Poor Charlie...he's lucky to have you...
As for the whipworms and other similar parasites...

Forgive me, my poor overworked brain...but either Heartgard or Interceptor has the added benefit of protecting against whips, plus others...

There are supplements that can help (and given in the right amts ) with the immune system...worth a shot....a great super premium food will do wonders.

My guys get Vitamin c, vitamin e, glycoflex every day...

Keep us posted :)

Hmmmm....I thougth Heartgard prevented hookworms but not whipworms? He has been on Revolution, which is supposed to prevent some kind of parasites but I'm not sure which ones.

Now for the dog great product to help HOD and Pano called Gycloflex I had a bitch that got HOD reaction to being over vaccinated ( another long story).

Gycloflex did wonders they now come in chewables and stages 3-1 . # being severe injuries and or joing issues.

You can get them on ebay CHEAP.

Product is 100% natural and helps the joints around the injuries or strains.

I am so sorry to read about Charlie and his troubles.

I am no fan of puppymills, either, but I am thankful that you rescued him.

He is a beautiful boy.

Found Gycoflex (without the "l") but the site says you need a prescription. Planet M., where did you find it on ebay? Did you need a prescription? My friend could really use this for her dog. Thanks
