The puppy will do much better on puppy milk replacement, you can find it at Petsmart. If possibly AT ALL, call around to local shelters and rescue groups to see if anyone has a dog with a recent litter that is still nursing. The puppy needs milk from the source and the opportunity to socialize with puppies her own age, otherwise you're going to have a very good possibilty of a fairly unbalanced dog.

Also, if you do find a shelter that has a mother that is still nursing...the puppy needs those antibodies (I think thats what they are called)...and needs to be around a mother dog...and other pups...so DITTO what Zoom said..

Get the biggest stick you can find, an axe handle also does well here, find whoever owns the pups mother, and hit he/she repeatedly with stick/axe handle. Please do this after following Zooms and Jess's advice.

O I wish I were closer My dog just weaned her puppies and still has milk . Best bet is to find a mom who just had puppies /or is weaned from them or even went through a false pregnancy.

dez, what are you doing for the puppy's bowls? The puppy cannot go on its own. You need to get a warm wash rag, and rub the puppy's butt. This should get the puppy to defecate. Same with urinating. You need to be doing this after every feeding.

Do NOT DILUTE the goat milk.

A decent puppy formula is goat milk with an egg yolk or two added, along with a tablespoon of white karo syrup and some baby vitamins.

At 2 weeks the puppy needs feeding every 3 hours or so around the clock.

You can speak to your vet about how to TUBE FEED the puppy if necessary. This is MUCH faster in the middle of the night, but must be done carefully to prevent the aspiration of the fluid into the lungs.

Stimulation of the elimination is also important.

by 3 to 3.5 weeks the puppy should be able to learn to eat gruel, so you only have about a week and a half of really hard work, but until 4 to 5 weeks it will still need to be fed a couple of times during the night.

I would not worry too much about socialization until 5 weeks or so. At that time if there are other puppies or good settled older bitches he can play with, that would be good.

What great help you've gotten already. What about too, asking some vets in your area if they have any patients with nursing bitches that could help. Or if he knows any breeders or any of the vets he knows...if they know someone. Get the word out asap. And let others help you. Your pup needs a Mom and some babies. Let us know how things go. You are so good to be doing this.

You really need to try to find a surrogate mother dog for that pup. I had a litter of Dachshunds born about two weeks ago. The mother didn't have enough milk for all of her pups. Since the puppies were as tiny as Yorkie puppies I gave one of the pups to one of my Yorkes. She has a litter that was only about a week older. Now Abby loves that Dachshund pup. She took to it right away and is a great mom. It will look funny later on when the pup grows and gets bigger but right now it was a perfect solution for the puppy.

Now why are you breeding Yorkies and Doxies? And at the same time?? :(
