Dakota I got from a breeder, Ranger, Aurora, Babylon, Cider and Snowball were basically given to me (from other mushers), and Gremlin, Sierra, Nova and Cheyenne were a result of an accidental litter between Ranger and Snowball.
I know that Tim got Tyr from a breeder and Princess was a rescue from way up north.. Somewhere in that new territory.. whats it called.. Iqaluit!!... I think that was it, Tim will have to tell ya.
Jenn, Nunavut is the territory Iqaluit is the capital city
I got Oceano from a breeder and Ronan was given to me by a friend. All 8 dogs from my one mentor are rescues and the 20 dogs owned by my other mentor are a combination of buying from other mushers, dogs given by friends, and breedings they have done themselves.
Yeah Princess is from Iqualuit.
Tyr I got from a breeder, he's the offspring from one of Bob Shaw's lines (trying so hard to get another but they stopped breeding this year lol)
I've had friends tell me before that they have got some of the best dogs they ever had from shelters or as freebies form people who didn't want them.
You can get some fantastic dogs form shelters and you can get some dogs who aren't suited for sledding at all from top kennels.
The odds are much better going to a breeder though.
However unless you plan to do things professionally/competitively a shelter dog will more then likely meet your needs if you just want to do things for fun.
I got Bailey and Willow from a breeder, my other two Timber and Savannah are from my own breeding (the dam is Willow and the sire is from another kennel)
