Ford Escape in Consumer Reports is rated above average in Reliability (in the 2006 model) and above average in Satisfaction. They do not recommend it because of the tip up rating in the government rollover test. It says fuel economy is disappointing though. I am just not a Ford person per se, but it has a pretty good rating.

A lot of people I know like the subaru wagons. Good mileage, reliable, four wheel drive, great for dogs, and yet still a car.

I know people that love their escapes and people that hate them. I kinda like them but not the earlier ones.

I am thinking about the Lexus ES300 or an Acura TL. Both have very high ratings, and I like them. I want something that is rated good, but that I like also. I like Hondas too, so I may end up with an Accord. The Honda Pilot was also rated very well, so I may look into those too.

My dream car!

2007 Range Rover.. silver please :D
Lol! I love those too, but they had a low reliability rating and their overall rating was "much worse than average" on almost everything. Eeeek!

Am I driving you guys crazy with this consumer reports thing now? ;) Sorry if I am.

I did love the Subaru outbacks, lots of power, all wheel drive, good gas milage, great handling, felt well made, price was affordable, good reliability, but it was too difficult for me to transport bigger dogs conveniently. smaller dogs no problem, I couldn't fit some of the crates we'd have in back, not multiple ones anyway to transport other dogs. If you have the same dogs all the time, and they get along and have smaller crates, Go for it.

I forgot about the Subaru, probably cause I was so disappointed after test driving and researching that it wouldn't fit my needs.

What about the Jeep Compass? It looks good and is very reasonably priced. And now don't tell me that they are rated poorly, because I am eying one of those :) ...maybe, if I will ever be able to sell my Wrangler.. *sigh*

Actually I don't see any rating in there at all for that particualr model....but overall the jeeps didn't do great in the magazine I am looking at. My hubby had a Jeep Grand Cherokee for a while, and I loved it, he didn't have it long enough for me to actually know how reliable it was because a few months after he got it, he got a sales job that requires him to drive a lot so he had to get a Honda Accord for better gas mileage.

Consumer Report rated my 1997 Toyota 4Runner very high when I got it in 1999 . NEVER had any problems with it and I love it . I had a van for 8 months and hated it ! The thing that sold me was that the rear window rolls down from inside. All other SUVs have tilt windows. I've had 4 goldens and labs in it . Always leave the seats down , so they are free from dog hairs when driving people and not dogs !

Not new new, but new slightly used. Something in the 2001-2005 range. Any suggestions on what I should look at. I want reliability, and either a sedan or a small SUV. Something I can carry my 90 pound dog around in when I take him places. Something fairly good on gas, and rides nice and smooth. Anyone have anything they may want to recommend that I can research?

Thanks guys!
Check out the Pathfinders and the Infinity QX4 which is just a fancy Pathfinder and it's till made my Nissan. I had a 02 Infinity QX4 that I had and I loved it, it wasn't to bad on gas and had no problems carrying my dog around in it. The only reason I don't have it is because I needed a bigger vehicle that could tow and carry 3 large dogs around, and still have room for their stuff and mine when I travel. The Toyota 4Runner runs forever looks great and I think it's decent on gas. The Chevy Blazer S-10 model is a good vehicle also, very reliable and great on gas...at least they used to be.

I'd say that about Land Rovers but not about jeeps... I had a Land Rover and it was very top heavy.. but I've also had Jeeps before... I don't think they are top heavy, not did it hydroplain.. nor jerky... weird!!

Jeep Libertys are cute

The jeep liberties are awful in handling. I rented one when I was in Lake Tahoe visiting friends. I would never suggest that vehicle just because of the way it handled.

I test drove a Subaru Forrester a couple of time when I was looking at new cars...loved the way it handled. The RAV sits better for me comfort-wise and I could afford it easier, but the Forrester is definetely something to look at. Volvos as well...great reliability and the wagons are very comfortable to drive.
