I didn't read the whole thread but I wanted to put in my 2 cents.

I LOVE MACS!!!!! They are much, much more user friendly, IMO. I only use a PC now if I absolutely have to, and even then it raises my blood pressure.

Macs are better for your health. Less stress. Faster in every way. Even if you have the fastest computer out there, Windows just takes forever. To turn on, reboot, do anything. And the errors!! Macs NEVER get error messages.

It is intuitive . . . Sure there are a few different keys to learn, and there are a few different terminologies, but it's not that big a deal to learn those few little things. It might be that it isn't for someone like me, though, since I've learned on so many different formats rather than only speaking one "language" from day one.

I mean, come on . . . . a machine that makes you go to Start to turn it off? Now how stupid is that? That, for me, pretty much sums up the Windows experience, lol. Counter-intuitive. Illogical. Irrational. Cumbersome.

Oh, and writing on a Mac is infinitely smoother than on a Windows machine, even with WordPerfect. I've had no problem at all, moving from WordPerfect to Mac, and I've been using WP since 5.0.

And by the way, I have a macbook that I got last month and my files drag to folders. I can drag anything anywhere - the toolbar at the bottom, a folder, the desktop, etc.

Actually, GO, if you're going to compare without the price of the monitor, you need to use the Apple's Mini . . . which, last time I looked, ran about $600.

And they DO run faster and cleaner. I didn't believe there would be as big a difference as there is until I got my hands on one on a day to day basis and have literally run it side by side with a brand, spankin' new, custom built (yah right  ) Dell laptop.

There is no comparison. It just blows the Windows machine away. At half the price. And that is real world, practical user, hands on experience.
Apple's mini is a desktop, why would you compare it to a dell laptop? GO and I are talking about budget desktops, something that's comparable.

Honestly, given your 'complaints' about a Mac, well, ok, I'm sorry, I'm still LOLing at you... erm, with you. :D Thanks for the laugh. :D

Oh, GO was using a laptop without a monitor for a comparison? Didn't realize that. Then he needs to either compare the Apple without a monitor or add a monitor to the Dell laptop he was using for comparison. THAT would be a more accurate comparison.

No I was using a desktop with a monitor. Why would you have a laptop without a monitor?

You can get a laptop with a monitor for about $600.

I mean, come on . . . . a machine that makes you go to Start to turn it off? Now how stupid is that? That, for me, pretty much sums up the Windows experience, lol. Counter-intuitive. Illogical. Irrational. Cumbersome.
It's a Start menu. To get you going. And you really don't have to go there to turn off the computer, just hit the power button on the unit. It'll shut itself down. That's how I turn off my laptop and desktop.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the file drop and drag originate with the early Apple machines?
Couldn't tell you, but on the machine I was using it wouldn't work. I made a new folder and tried to put my document in there and it wouldn't go in.

I love Macs, plan to own one, and get to work on them almost every day, but I still don't understand how anyone can argue that they're better than a computer running Windows. They are gorgeous and extremely elegant. That doesn't mean that nothing ever goes wrong. A week ago I could not, after trying on several different machines, get any of them to run Aperture. All of them crashed miserably. The program looked great! Until I tried to do anything more than sit and stare, then the beach ball of death appeared. How is that a higher quality program? Just because it looks pretty?

I also don't get how people can think they aren't expensive? You can build your own PC with the same specs and pay less. Sure I'm eventually going to shell out the money for one, but I don't think they're necessarily worth what I'll be paying.

I'm certainly not going to argue that Windows is the better choice, though. Whichever you like more is the better choice for you. I have a three year old Toshiba laptop that still runs great and does everything I need it to. (Even after I've managed to drop it a few times.) I don't feel like I'm missing something simply because I don't have a Mac to come home to.

I don't really get the argument. Everyone's always going to side with the OS they own, and neither is going to admit the other may be right. And, well, I doubt either side is right.

I have no idea. I just noticed that GO was complaining that you can't drag stuff on a mac. I don't know how old the mac was that he used where he had that problem though.

And as for my experiences with macs... I had to use them in high school because thats what they had for the journalism class that my english teacher taught. Spent a while on those... figured out how to do the basics and what not, but still didn't seem intuitive to me at all. Especially with those one button mice everyone thought was cute. Ugh.

They looked new. They're in our SCC on campus so I'm assuming fairly new (the windows units are new).

Perhaps it was just a problem with the computer. But oh wait, macs never have problems. I forgot.

No, the file wouldn't click and drag like it does on a windows machine. Don't ask me why, but it wouldn't. Computer error.

LOL. This, just... I don't see how this could possibly be true. And if it is, my laptop must be one-of-a-kind and worth a million. It starts up and reboots faster than the Mac Pros I have to use! And I do promise I'm not exaggerating.

I can't comment on this. I don't think I've ever restarted a Mac nor turned one on.

But my laptop boots in 25 seconds and my Desktop in about 30 or so I'd wager. No more than 40 seconds.

Anyhow I really have to study anatomy, so I bid adieu until the morrow.

I love the mice. The scroll ball is absolutely amazing for design work.
I couldn't handle having just one button... the mouse I bought for myself (which also works for macs) is the MX1000, has 8 buttons. I find myself missing each and every one of those when I use another computer, and my next mouse will have at least that many, possibly more if I can find one made by Logitech.

I love how we actually had someone (my hubby) with vast experiences with BOTH machines come and offer insight and the only complaints PC users can come up with are regarding the necessity to use a different button for the purpose of copy and paste, the mice, and the inability to properly drag an icon to a folder. Even with my lack of computer knowledge, I am able to see the difference between lack of user intuition and machine failure and even I can appreciate the humor from this thread. :D
