I just found out that one of my coworkers who does the same job as me, has the same amount of education, and was a new grad when she started work 6 months ago makes more money than me. I've been there for 2 years now. Oh and don't think it's because I don't ASK for raises, because I have been asking for one since last July. I am scheduled to get one on May 1... but still it will not be much more than my new coworker is making. And much less than what everyone else is making.
How I found out this little tidbit of information is quite interesting as well. It was placed next to my stuff in the staff room.. right next to my purse... with that information right on top. It was meeting minutes from the bosses meeting last month when they were trying to decide who would get raises. Like someone intended for me to see it... but I find that hard to believe and would rather believe that someone was just careless.
I've been considering leaving this job for a little while now. One of the reasons I've wanted to leave is that they don't seem willing to budge on negotiating some form of maternity leave, not even short term disability that I would pay for myself but that I cannot get on my own. Why do I still work for them? Because I like my job, I enjoy going to work each day. I know that's not something I will always have wherever I go. Also, the other benefits are pretty good. But after I found out how they've stiffed me... I just don't see the point anymore.
Yeah, this is a little more than a minor rant, but I don't feel like taking the risk of making a thread for it. It's enough to just get it off my chest.
