Current story of my life, it's bad when you have to borrow them from people for an event because you can't afford your own.
What's worse is when you drop money on discs in preparation for a comp, and then your dog isn't able to compete!

I'm glad Cynder is stable. And it seems so petty to complain about this. But my GOD am I tired of cleaning up regurged saliva. She's back on her meds now to see if it would help and so far...nada. At least 2-3 piles of nasty saliva piles a day. Typically on the carpet. An now she just hacked something up by my foot that looks like a hairball. I actually have no idea what it is other than disgusting.
I'm glad she's keeping her food and water down and is otherwise not having any issues. But dang it. This is getting really, really old.

SCREAMING. I filled out an app for the rescue Border Collies In Need a couple days ago, and now the BC meet and greet/adoption date is scheduled for this Saturday for this awesome girl! I am stoked, but also still keeping some skepticism, in case I am actually cursed and anything else goes wrong... But everything the foster mom described of her is exactly the temperament and ball drive that I have been looking for. ;__; She even enjoys water, which is just a plus after the long list of pluses.
This is her! She was not even listed yet, because the foster mom just had her for a week. So I'm the only one who knows about her so far. She had me contact her directly after getting my application for a flyball and agility dog, loves small~large dogs, not territorial, outgoing with people, and of course... extremely intelligent and fast at picking up commands. Pray pray pray nothing goes wrong before I go to pick her up on Saturday. It'll be a 4 hour drive.

Thanks! ;_; I really hope it works out. She does seem like a gem. I won't get my hopes too high up, even though the adoption date and all has been scheduled already. Please let the whole ordeal go smoothly. I will withhold from celebrating 100% until she is literally on my car and on the way home with me.

Traded foster puppy for one of the stumpy puppies I've been helping with since November. She's having her first heat cycle. Both my boys are neutered. Brisbane has been around girls in season before and is unphased. Ru is absolutely beside himself. After getting a sniff he spent ten minutes whining at her from across the room. He finally settled for playing with her, but the amount of chihuahua-stritting going on around here is ridiculous. Also his airplane ears are now permanently pointed at the ceiling instead of the walls.
We were at the pet store today and some toddler comes running down the aisle (with her mom elsewhere yelling her name) and before I know it she has her arms wrapped around Juno's neck giving her a big old hug. It was in that moment that I realized how so so so glad I am that she is so perfect and tolerant. She didn't love the interaction but she allowed it and then licked the kid's face. Good girl.
Also very glad that Cajun was on the other side of me because unfortunately I think it would've resulted in a hard lesson for toddler and mom if she were the one being hugged by random person.
And Mr. Sawyer was a perfect gentleman and it became very evident that he knows sitting = treats. He was very much LOOK HOW HARD I'M SITTING and staring holes through me. Which is cool, it kept him out of trouble lol. He was the best behaved of the 3 dogs.

About Cajun being a hard lesson: actually me with Lancer every day when we're outside. When some kids comes flying up to him and pets him without my notice/without my permission, and he barks twice fast in the kid's face, I can only be like... now you know not to run up to random dogs. Thanks Lancer.
Actually had someone say it was a shame I didn't try harder to get Addie's ears to tip. Last resort was the Eurpoean way, or Japanese tape. I could neither find the heavy pads, and I have zero knowledge of the tape.
So what if my dog has pointy ears. They are thick, and glue just does not stick (either I am buying crappy glue, or it is all water soluble). That's the way she was made and she is beautiful just the way she is. Honestly, who cares if my undersized sport/companion with an underbite soon to be spayed dog does not have fashionbly tipped ears. Yes, I understand it's standard, but she is already not standard, so what.
End rant. I shouldn't let that bother me. But it did. I am sure the person was very nice as a person, and a breed enthusiast.

I'm having a conversation with a Catahoula breeder who works to keep the "cow" in her dogs and it's been really enlightening. I've been able to get ahold of several older articles I hadn't seen before through her, she has given me breed-specific training tips, and I feel like I understand a lot more about how NALC and especially WCA cow dog trials are structured - there aren't many photos or videos of them freely available on the web so they were a bit of a mystery to me. One I wasn't prepared to drive all the way to KY or LA to solve just yet.
I am very much heartened to find that, contrary to my expectation (which was that baying might be the only real skill show-cased), upper levels of the WCA trials at least do test more diverse stock skills, including gathers, penning and driving. I knew that historically all curs had been used for pretty general stock work, and that my own dog's dam had been... but the graphic modern examples I've gathered are definitely something I'll be able to refer to when in the future confronted with the misconception that Catahoulas can't or shouldn't do more with a herd than windmill and bark at it.
Also really interesting to compare and contrast the differences in style and training philosophy between the sheep trial-style herding Indy and I are being taught vs. the less formalized "cur dog" style they use. They're very big on trying to be sparing with their cue repertoire apparently, and the idea of using a long line as a training tool seemed foreign if not anathema.
It also means that WCA cow dog trial placement in upper levels by parent dogs is another cue I can use for selecting a puppy with good all-around working potential in the future.

I feel like a bad foster mom for sending Xena back to her previous foster situation. She got a lot more individual attention and had a better chance of finding a home with me, but I couldn't adopt her out in good conscience knowing that she likely has undiagnosed health issues. I greatly don't want to place her in an unsuspecting home when she could have a reduced lifespan or a ton of veterinary expenses ahead.
I am also a terrible foster mom because I traded her for an eight-month-old ACD mix puppy girl who was born pre-programmed with 'place' and 'sit to say please'. She's here to learn how cats work. She is also breaking my "only foster dogs I don't like" in the worst possible way.

I was just going to feed Leo dinner when I remembered we were fresh out of dog food, so I quickly ran to the petstore to grab some more.
I get back 15 minutes later to an extremely anxious/submissive dog greeting me at the door (completely atypical). It was very much of a "Hi, mom. Wasn't expecting you back so soon." reaction, even though I know I am anthropomorphizing a bit.
Of course my immediate reaction is "What did you do?"
Sure enough, Leo had found/acquired the bird's cuttlebone and eaten half of it. He must have been in the middle of the act when he heard me get back.
Can't be too mad, cause clearly he was pretty hungry to get into such mischief in just the 15 minutes I was gone. My fault for not having dinner ready. I just hope cuttlebone doesn't upset his stomach. Its mostly just added calcium for him, I guess :dunno:
