SAFETY HARBOR, Fla. - Michael Schiavo, whose brain-damaged wife was at the center of a contentious end-of-life battle that played out on a worldwide media stage, has remarried, family members said.

Schiavo married his longtime girlfriend Jodi Centonze on Saturday in a private church ceremony, said John Centonze, the brother of the bride.

Schiavo's former wife, Terri, died in March after her feeding tube was removed. She had suffered irreversible brain damage after collapsing at age 26 in 1990.

Terri Schiavo's parents and siblings fought for years to keep her alive, arguing that she had some level of consciousness. Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, the U.S. Supreme Court, Congress, the White House and even the Vatican became involved in the case.

An autopsy supported Michael Schiavo's contention that she was in a persistent vegetative state with no consciousness and no hope of recovery.

Schiavo and his new bride have two young children. They met in a dentist's office about 11 years ago and began a relationship after Terri Schiavo was already in a nursing home.

"It was very emotional," John Centonze said after the noon ceremony. "It's been a long time coming. A lot of things happened in between."

How can you call him a snake. he was the only one doing right by that poor woman and do you expect him to hold of marrying the woman he has children with forever just because Terry died under unfortunate circumstances?

Good for him and I also hope they will be happy. Good for his new wife for understanding his commitment to Terry and good for him for doing the best for her even when he didn't have to.

Me too BigDog. I'd be so choked if my parents kept me in that state. I mean, I'd never know but still.... She needed to be let go. :( Everyone needs to move on.

Can;t expect him to stay single just because his wifes death was publicized. if it was never on the news no one would have thought twice about him getting remarried. Lots of people get remarried after the death of their spouse. he has children to think about

I agree Saje. If I were in a state where I had no conscious ability what would be the point. let me go. God's will is for me to pass not to be kept alive by machines. just let me go don't make me suffer.

He could have divorced her and married the GF earlier and saved alot of heartache for Terri's living family. A doctor would have eventually told them what the autopsy reveiled, and the end would have been, in my mind more humane. Less fighting less heartache and everybody moves one and gets what they want.

Maybe but I'd have a hard time divorcing and 'abandoning' someone I was married to and loved. It would feel like quitting. Personally I hope that Steve would fight my parents to let me go because I know my mom would want to keep me around in any condition and I'd hate that.

He had the girlfriend and kids before he started his crusade to have her feeding tube pulled, really noble.
He spent a lot of time and money to try to help her before he started to move on, I think he was a great guy for trying so hard and so long, then doing what just about any sane person would want him to do under the same situation, take her off support and let her go, and that support includes feeding. She had no life at all, she was a "meatshell"

This should make anyone who doesn't have a living will get one set up. It's a five minute deal and would have prevented all the nonsense in the Schiavo case.

I don't see how that makes a difference. He let someone else in. I think he's lucky to have someone that would stand by him through all that.
