For those of us in the states..the clinics now overloaded, and shortened funds
have no choice in handling the amount of people they can cover so..the answer is to send all problems to the er. My grandaughter has ashthma..can't see her for a week..well u can always take her to the er.
Infection..no appoinment available for two weeks..you can go to the er..
This is the way they are balancing the budget? Doesnt' that just make sense?
If you go to the er with per say broken ribs, you can wait on all the overload from the doc's office now. There is triage, but your still going to wait a long long time.
It just makes ,me stomping mad.
Anybody else see this happening?

My sister got really sick, so I was trying to make her a doctor's appointment, and they couldn't get her in for a month, so I had to take her to the emergency room. Everyone knows that er visits are way more expensive than a regular doctor's visit.

See that is just my point..I don't know what to do about it, cept call a congressman or senator, not that I think it would do much either, we just go along like cattle and don't complain...aven an aspirin cost 200 times more in an er..and most of the people at my clinic do not have insurance, or if they do it is state funded. So this is all backwards..and I am hearing it from everybody. Some infections can go septic if they are untreated, or lie low and eat away the health without being detected for soem time, being more expensive in the long run, or fatal. The President talks about the trouble with medicare...yet here is a symptom that will rot the whole thing out quickly..or diminish the masses..what shoud a person do? Who shoud they talk to. would it make any difference? This is just so dang dumb it makes my head spin.

Do you really think the policymakers give a rodent's rear end about what happens to those of us who can't afford pricey health insurance? We don't contribute to political campaigns; we vote less than any other segment. Who cares what happens? Get active, make noise and gather together enough of our number to MAKE them pay attention - or lose their jobs!

And I will say that the farther away from the medical professionals I stay the healthier I am . . .

Remember, too, that those long waits in the ER give you so much opportunity to pick up every stray bacteria and virus from everyone else waiting. It's a no-win situation.

My dad has been swelling mysteriously for the past few weeks. The clinic he usually goes to doesn't know or seem to care what the problem is, but it's the only place he can go and be somewhat covered by the so-called insurance his company provides. They are always overbooked, seems the only way he would be able to get some answers is to go to the ER. I don't care much for family practice clinics anyway. I'm with you, Renee. I stay healthier without the doctors. I wonder if some of the ones on the base here didn't get their licenses to practice out of a Sears catalog. Anyway, good topic...had to vent!

That swelling can be serious, Chili, especially if it's starting at the extremities. Rattle a few cages if you have to; call the insurance carrier and raise Hell, nag them for some alternative doctors. You may have to go the ER route to get him referred to a specialist that insurance will cover.

Has your Dad ever had any kind of circulatory or heart problems?

it is easy for people who are healthy to say stay away, but fact is the bell tolls for us all and sooner or hopefully much later it will be u.Jim always told me.."I'll never be in a nursing home..you can just prop me under a tre....blah blah blah..I told him if I had a nickle for everytime I heard that anyway that is where he ended up and died two weeks later. No one says I want to grow up to be in the hospital. .I don't know what to do, but it seems there should be something...even if I can only start a petition at the clinic..I am willing to try. It is all backwards to go to the er and somebody should listen. I sat in on a city budget meeting with my son when he was in scouts. they were discussing the city water or sewer tiles, i don't remember which, but one man fought hard for purchasing the tiles that would last a tremendously long time, and of course they cost a bit more, not a whole lot more, just more..and you know what went thru...the cheaper tile that would last long enough for these council members to not be sitting there next time. That is fine i guess for sewer tiles, but we are talking people's number one most important thing, no health, no body around to rescue right? I was lucky for the last 15 years to have a doc that cared, was responsible, and he retired..i have been slung into the greatest mess ever since. I need a good medical backup to help me fight some wear and tear of my life. I do not know the proper procedures for raising an issue like this, but i am going to find out. The only way they will care is if we make them care. If anybody has any ideas..pm me..I am serious about this.
