I just wish there was the same outcry against those who have been convicted of beating their wives and children.

What he did to "euthanize" the dogs was beyond cruel. But today, a dog's life means more than a woman's or a child's. At some point in time I think I woke up in Saudi Arabia it seems.
If Vick had tortured women and children to death we would not be having this discussion as he would still be in jail, possibly on death row. Instead he got a whopping year.

I get sick of the "Well, people don't get that upset about women and children being abused" argument. The fact is, yes, people DO get that upset about women and children getting abused. More, in fact. Why does he get so much attention in dog circles? Well, maybe because those that make up dog circles are DOG LOVERS and have a special interest in the dogs that where his victims and the abuse that his arrest highlighted. There is ALWAYS some sort of worse crime someone can commit. We should all just shut our mouths and forget about it because there were no humans abused? Maybe none of us should ever donate to rescue again because after all, there will always be humans in need. Why help animals when there are humans in need?

IMHO, as an NFL fan and essentially a customer of the NFL, I'd like to see some standards set off the field. If Jay Cutler was convicted of torturing his girlfriend, you can bet your ass that I would NOT want him playing for the Bears or any other team in the NFL. Allowing them to play after being convicted of violent crimes just rewards the behavior. He needs a job now?? Boo-f**king-hoo, he can go out and get a job OFF the field like thousands of other ex-cons.

Well said. I don't understand why people always use that arguement. As you pointed out it isn't true. The other is that they aren't related. Just because he did torture humans I can still be outraged by what he did. Even from the human aspect. Home many children suffer mental trauma because of watching fight he promoted! Don't think children were there? Listen to Vick's own words. He claims to be witness to many fights, even when he was a kid. Maybe he is screwed up in the head because of all the abuse he watched as a child? Thats no excuse but what he did effected humans to!

I completely agree.

I think it's disgusting that he's back in the NFL after everything he did. He needs a job? Okay, he can find something besides playing football and making millions of dollars.

It just makes me sick that someone can torture dogs like that, and still be worshipped by millions of people. If he had tortured/killed his wife and children, he would be sitting in a jail cell right now.

I agree. If I had done that, I know that I would NEVER be able to get back to my job again. NOBODY would ever hire me back on. You pee in a park, get registered as a sex offender and you will pay for it the.rest.of.your.life.

Big cases cause a big stir-up. If he trafficked in women and children and did the same to them, he would NEVER be playing in the NFL again. But since it's "only" dogs.... I guess at that point everyone forgets the link that has been made many, many times between pet abuse and other violent crimes.

And while I am on the fence for sanctuaries for not adoptable dogs... putting that on the same level as being physically tortured to an unimaginable degree just doesn't compare better than apples to oranges. While I also do not agree with a lot of rescues only painting "pit bulls" as big teddy bears- the publicity rehabilitating these dogs has done a lot to change the public view of bully breeds for the better.
