background: my parents' springer spaniel absorbs a gallon of water in his face after a drink, depositing it all over the floor as he walks away. my old roomates' lab would gently lap up water and be clean about it.
currently: MY lab has to drool a river from his bowl to the carpet, over and over. looks like the Amazon delta. is this something hereditary? has anyone actually worked on improving this? is it usually just a puppy thing? hot dang it'd be nice if he would grow out of this. he drinks with his face.

Well . . . . you probably need to learn to see the humor in it ;)

My Fila, Kharma, sticks her whole muzzle in the water and drinks by the mouthful. Her favorite place to dry off her face is on whoever squeals the loudest ;)

lol. he hunts for someone's leg or arm to dry off too. it's funny, but tip toe-ing through the dining room, looking for reflections gets old.

once he's saturated my knee, he's ready for another drink. :lol-sign:

lol, we used to foster a staghound who would drag a half gallon out of his bowl in his beard. But he was pretty sensitive too, it took me waving my hands frantically and squealing for him to get the idea the he should dry his face before putting it in my lap. lol, he would wash his face with his paws after drinking which was really nice of him (part of why people say sighthounds are like cats :p)

I bet you could train a dog to wipe its face on a handy towel. We will probably attempt this as our new puppy later this month will have a methusaleh beard.

You could try giving him more ice cubes than water...if your dog will eat ice cubes.:D All three of my girls eat it, and it saves having to "watch for reflections" on my kitchen floor:rofl1:
