Ok, I was just bit by a spider like half an hour ago (a REALLY big spider  ). I washed it and put some ointment on it but the bite area is swelling pretty bad. I don't have any ice made so right now I have Lily's chilly bone that I am using as an ice pack. Should I be worried that this bite is swelling this much. It's like all red around the mark and the redness is like as big as a quarter and it's swelled up pretty big now, like half of one of those little bouncy balls you get in the quarter machine. I'm worried, I don't know if I should call and ask my husband to come home or not. I can't really explain the spider except it was big, and black. Not a black widow though, well didn't look like one. I've had a reaction like this to a spider like two years ago and we ended up going to the hospital.

I would go to the hospital now and see if they have any anti-venom on hand. Try and get your husband to capture the spider that bit you as well, so they can ID it exactly and don't have to guess. It also sounds like you might be having an allergic reaction to the bite, in addition to the venom.

Have any benadryl you can take?
we don't have the pills I just have the tub of stuff to rub on it. My hubby is coming home so we can go to the hospital. I know exactly where the spider is because his nest is right next to our door and he's sitting on it. He must have accidentally climbed on me and then when I swatted he got mad. I'll have my husband get him when he gets home. This SUCKS! If it's not one bad thing it's another. Oh well atleast my hubby gets to come home early and we can spend some extra time together (I guess that's the best way to look at it).

It may be a wolf spider. Wow, hubby must have sped, I called him right after I posted this and he's home now. Made it home in half an hour that's a new world record! Well hopeful I will be home SOMETIME before the night is over.

It's web is right by our back door and I was leaning on the side of the house so he must have crawled on. I didn't feel it climb on me but I went into the house and felt something under my sleeve (I had a short sleeve shirt on) and he was just crawling up my arm. I freaked out and went to brush him off and missed or didn't hit it hard enough and he bit me (then I flung the little jerk off and he hit the house). Although good news is no hospital my doctor called in a prescription for something that I can take and then I'll just go and see him in the morning. So now I get to hang out with my hubby all night and not in the ER waiting room (YEAH). My husband is going to catch the spider and bring it to the doctor's office tomorrow though. He has to catch him tonight though because he's never out in the morning. He's really scary, I'll try to take a picture of him for you guys.

anyways!!

Julie, hope that swelling goes down! glad to hear that you dont have to go to the ER...that is never a fun trip...just keep an eye on it...make sure it doesnt get worse!!

Maybe it's not a wolf spider than but it's black. He's not in his web, I just went to look. Maybe I killed him :(. The swelling isn't getting any worse, but not any better. I just took the stuff though so I will give it some time. Maybe we'll go to sleep.

Keep an eye on your bite. My son got bit by one while helping one of my wife's friends move stuff out of her basement. His knee swelled up like a grapefruit after a couple days and he had to go on Cipro for a week, and that is some nasty stuff to take.
