What kind of dog? How old is he? Did you hit your BF back? (I would!)

There are a lot of factors involved. He may forgive humans in general, but I doubt he will ever have much of a relationship with your BF if he hits him every time he does something wrong. (The only time I would hit a dog was if I had to break up a life-and-death fight).

i agree. I have kicked as hard as I can at dogs that have picked fights with Buster. I would hit a dog to defend mine. same i would hit a person to defend my family.

Tell your bf that hitting your pup will not make him listen, Why would he want the pup to fear him? I would get rid of the bf.

If you're a ruler over a country and you instill fear into the people, they will listen but they will hate you and eventually you will fall. They will turn against you eventually. If you love your people, they will basically love you back. And in times of turmoil, they will protect you. And they will listen because they want to, not because they have to. Which is better?

The example may have been crappy but the point is, hitting your dog is wrong. Especially for no **** reason. And eventually, it's going to come to a point where it's going to fight back.

There is NO reason to strike a small breed puppy. He doesn't need to fear you to obey you. I would recommend reading some books on dog training (I like Dr Ian Dunbar personally) and find better, more rational ways to train the pup.

Puppies will be underfoot quite a bit. I wouldn't think that it's misbehavior for the puppy to be in the pathway where you're trying to walk. Maturity more than any kind of training seemed to teach my human kids and my 4 footed ones to give walking space to others.

There is no need to strike ANY size puppy, or adult for that matter :).

I am sure you meant that though, LOL.

Why not EXPLAIN to your BF why hitting doesn't solve anything. If it happens again though... I'm sorry, but I wouldn't stay with him.

I have slapped Rob for hitting Kona. Hard enough to bruise his sholder.

No excuse. You shouldn't hit a dog. EVER.

I was referring to this situation in particular, but yeah, I could have been more specific, huh? ;) I'm concerned about the physical damage that could be done to a small dog.

But now I am wondering too if this is a real post ....

Aren't you the one that keeps their dog locked in a crate most of the time until it turns 6 months old? Are you still doing this on top of allowing your bf to hit your dog? Why?

Wow a violent crew we have here.
Never ever resort to hitting your bf.
I like how people think its not ok for the bf to hit the gf, but its ok if the gf hits the bf.
Yes that upsets me and rightfully so. Its hipocritical. Its never ok to hit wether your a girl or a guy.

Sit down and explain to your bf that hitting your pup is unacceptable. Hopefully he will understand.

It sounds like the OP doesn't care that much about her dog. IMO, the pup needs a new, better, loving home with someone that will play with him and train him properly and NOT beat him for no d@*n reason. This dog, even being a small breed, will grow up fearing you and your bf and will attack both of you. If you aren't going to enlighten your bf and tell him to stop or get the hell out then you need to find the pup a better home.
