I want either an ADBA APBT from a breeder, or a retired Greyhound. It's possible I'll get another Dobe (which would be from a breeder) but as I already have a Dobe, I'd rather wait to get another.

Well, if I can get Gambit sorted out by 2013, send a Dashling my way!

Barring that, a LHW or Silken Windhound from a breeder down the road. The only exception would be if my former foster dog Grimm were to come back to rescue. Then I would rush to get him.

Yeah timeline-wise mine is a long ways off too. Earliest would be a Mirapup which would probably be in about 2 years if her co-owner decides to go ahead with current plans and there is a pup I just can't pass up. Otherwise I'll start seriously looking in about 3-4 years with a goal to get a pup around 4-5 years from now.

From a rescue, though it's several years off as I have to finish college and be making enough money to support myself, Tucker, and another dog. Tucker would LOVE a playmate though.

Not sure. I will most likely be a one-dog girl until I am ready to start training a dog who can fill in for Eve, and when that day comes I will probably go to a breeder.

I do rescue and I love rescue dogs, but I want a specific dog for a specific job, and I think I have a better chance of getting that from a responsible breeder.

What I think my breakdown percentages are:

40% possibility rescued Greyhound
40% possibility shelter dog
18% possibility adult breeder rehome
2% possibility puppy from breeder

What will probably end up happening:

One of the local rescue people post a picture of a dog that needs a home and I run out and get it. It will most likely be another Frodo dog and then you all will have to listen to me complain for the next thousand years that I want a stable dog :p

PWC, that's exactly how I envision myself. Going to get a dog that isn't at all what I wanted/planned on, but was drawn to anyway. I'm trying really hard to not let that happen. =P

Me too! Fortunately I have some people here who seem pretty willing to tell me that I'm being an idiot and that I won't be happy with whatever dog I am currently coveting.

If I do go the rescue route I have a friend that will be performing behavioral evaluations on any dog that I decide I want from a shelter.

The apartment that we are moving into in March has a two dog limit, so it is going to be super tough to not nab the first dog I see once we are moved in. At the same time, it gives me more pause because I know that the next dog is going to have to be the LAST dog until we buy a house.

My next dog will either be bred by me or from a breeder. Right now, the only way I see myself with a rescue is if I happen find a dog and it's absolutely perfect for me.

I haven't made up my mind yet. I'm leaning more towards breeder at this point, but it totally depends if I feel like dealing with a puppy again (still unsure about it). If not, I'll probably look at adults from breeders, then rescue.

I think I'd really love the whole experience of dealing with a reputable breeder. All of our dogs have come from pretty crappy places, and then we have one rescue. So it's something I'd like to experience... knowing my dogs parents, grandparents, etc, and having the support of a breeder throughout the dogs life if needed.

Dash puppies! awesome.

For me, it'd be a Berger Picard from a breeder.
I'm totally going to be living vicariously through you... please over load us with photos, please!

Ideally we'll breed Sloan this time next year if it all works out via health tests, etc.

Maybe by then I will have neutered the whiny giant rat in the crate to my right losing his mind over his housemates delicious seasonal scent.

Most definitely. It'll be a little while since we still live in an apartment and our lease isn't up until July and then we're not sure if we'll renew or look for a house. Then finding a breeder (have a few in mind) and waiting for a litter. Everyone I've talked to said that it can be a bit of a wait for a pup.

Rescue, always. I felt really uncomfortable when I was on a breeders list for a week, it felt so so wrong in my heart. Even though the breeder was a good one, and the puppy was a healthy beautiful little thing, I couldn't do it, knowing I could have given a rescue dog a home.

A breeder. My husband has this idea that he gets to choose the next dog.....I think he just needs to go along with the next Dobe. HA!

Our future dog limit is 2, so I can't decide if we are going to have two permanent residents or if we have 1 permanent resident and a foster spot. I think I'd just stick to 1 and keep a foster spot.

I have absolutely nothing against rescue. My number one worry is that an accident is going to happen to myself and my husband and my dog will be homeless. I want the security of knowing that my dog is also important to my breeder and he/she will have a place for them in their home, no questions asked.

I also like knowing exactly where my dog came from, their family history, and what behaviors to expect.

My next dog will definitely be from a breeder. I've had my fair share of rescues, and I likely will adopt one again someday, but right now I am more comfortable getting dogs from breeders.

Well our "next dog" came super early in the form of Snipe, who is neither from a rescue/shelter or breeder, but we consider a rescue.

For the next dog after the current group? Breeder probably, but a lot can change in 10+ years. ;) I'm anticipating getting a male malinois for schutzhund. If I end up putting schutzhund on hold for some odd reason, I'd probably go with a male cattle dog from breed rescue for companion/agility/rally/herding.

I do want to get a Fila from a breeder, but other than that I will have dogs from rescues/shelters. I don't have any particular needs that shelter dog can't fill, besides my need for a well-bred Fila pup! :)
