Hey guys.. so first off, I know I keep disappearing off of here. Sorry about that. I broke up with my now exboyfriend and moved back home to California. He was abusive. I snuck out when we was at church(hah.) and I never went back.

Regis used to be a completely, 100% housebroken dog.

He now craps inside. I've even caught him peeing inside my boyfriends house.. twice.

I'm currently at home with my mother who is about to throw Regis on the street. Thankfully I'm moving into my own place in two weeks, but the downside is that now it will be MY carpet he will be crapping on. I don't have the money to spend on carpet cleaning.. that aside, they explained that they take these special lights when I move out to see if my dog went to the bathroom and if he did, I have to replace all the carpet, which as some of you may know is probably somewhere over $1,000.

I don't know what to do. I don't know what's wrong with him. It's like I take 300 steps forward in my life and he takes 20 back.

How do I fix this?! I never catch him doing it so I can never reprimand him. My conditions on him living here now is him being tied up or outside. I'm desperate.

ETA- Did I mention MOST of the time is diarrhea!? I don't know what the HECK is up with that either. I even switched his food to a really light diet(it's like.. chicken and rice basically) and if he craps inside it's always diarrhea. I'd say on average at least 3/10 times he poops outside its diarrhea. What the heck! I hate to say it but I don't know how much more of this I can take!

If he's having diarrhea, he may not be able to control when he has to go to the bathroom. Has he seen a vet? He may have IBS or something.

Honestly, I'd just basically housebreak him all over again, using a crate. Do this AFTER a vet check, because if he is unable to hold it, you're both going to get frustrated.

OMFG. I am sooo sorry, Carlee... and I am so glad you left that asshole! :( You are such a sweet person, and you deserve to be happy and loved. I'm sorry that you're also going through this stress with Regis.

If Regis needs a place to stay for a while and get super well house-trained, please drop him off here!!!! I am a master house trainer. :p

First off, the diarrhea is probably your biggest opponent. How long has he had consistent diarrhea? Is he stressed? He eats just chicken and rice? Have you ever tried feeding him a grain free diet? I highly recommend getting a fecal at the Vet and making sure the diarrhea isn't health related. If that is all clear, I highly recommend feeding him a raw diet. Raw fed dogs poo 1-2 times a day, and the poos are incredibly well formed, odorless and crumble into dust after a day. That will at the very least make clean up much easier. I have raised Fozzdawg on raw and he has never ever had diarrhea... except when he got into some special cake, and diarrheaed in my bathtub in the night.

The best way to prevent accidents is to not take him back inside until he has pooped. Get him on a good feeding schedule (you might want to feed once a day), take a good week and make sure he gets out to potty on the hour every hour. Figure out the general times that he'll need to go. Crate him when you can't supervise him, and make sure you take him out and he doesn't need to poo before you put him in the crate (that or put him in an x-pen or babygated area with hardwood/tile floors and put down potty pads). REWARD heavily for going potty outside... bring delicious treats, like cheese or chicken, just for potty rewards. The best way to potty train a dog perfectly is to set them up for 100% success. Don't let him inside unless he's "empty". Get him running and playing and he's sure to poo if he needs to.

Awww, I was hoping to get to meet Regis and Kyra at some point. :( But, I'm glad you got away from your jerkass ex!

I don't have any brilliant suggestions, other than if it's always diarrhea, I'd get him checked for anything medical and then maybe consider a light anti-anxiety (Bach's perhaps) until he's more settled in. If you just got out of a crappy situation, followed by a giant move, followed by more anxiety (your mom not being happy with the messes), the poor guy might just be overhwlemed.

Thanks for the great advice! Right now he's on a brand by the same people who make Innova I think, it's a kibble but it's only rice and chicken in it, or something like that. I'll definitely look into raw diet.. I just have to see how it fits into my budget!

You all are SO sweet.. thanks so much <33 I left my ex a year ago, so Regis should be adjusted to being back here by now.. I made a vet appointment for him on Monday morning, soonest I could do with work and all.

And d'aww.. youre so sweet! I dunno if I could ever part with the little guy even for a few days.. but I'd LOVE to do that meetup we've been talking about now that I'm back in Cali.. ^^; Do you have a facebook? <3 & thanks for the support.. I can't express how happy I am to be back and away from him. It's GREAT. Lol <3

Zoom, I know, a meet up would have been really fun. I could've really used a friend out there.. <3

All you had to do was drop me a line. ;) I'm glad you're getting settled (wow, a year, really??) and that Regis has nothing more than a minor imbalance going on.

Is it California Natural? He could just be really intolerant of grains. Raw is super good for an elimination diet too, to find out what foods agree best with his lil corg tummy. I spend MUCH less on raw than a super premium kibble. If you don't want to feed bones and such, there are tons of pre-made raw options (Primal, Nature's Variety, Stella & Chewy's, etc) but they will be more expensive than buying raw meaty bones from the store/butcher. I feed half pre-made and half raw meaty bones. Fozzie weighs 45 lbs and eats 1/2 lb a day, so that works out to like $1 a day.

Do you live in Socal now? I still live in Sac. We gots to kick it! Fozz and Reg would be BFFs and Fozz will teach him to diarrhea in the bathtub. :) http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=507802710

Yes it's california natural. Thats a good point.. I'll have to check out the raw diet thing. I only have a tiny area for a fridge, so I'm assuming when I get a fridge the freezer area will be pretty small.. I'll see though. Are there any other brands that I can feed with less grains?

I went ahead and added you on FB. I'm in socal, Ventura County. But I go up to Santa Cruz every so often to visit my family up there, and I always bring Regis. How far is Santa Cruz from you? :)

My favorite brand is Nature's Variety Instinct, Salmon or Rabbit formulas. It's not much pricier than Ca Nat, and it produces the BEST poops of any kibble, in my opinion. I would switch him cold turkey and add LOTS of plain canned pumpkin. 1 tablespoon per 10 lbs of body weight, so probably 4 for Reg. Pumpkin is a miracle for loose stools! Give him some plain/greek yogurt or a digestive aid with the pumpkin to build up good flora. I would do this for a good week or two, slowly decreasing the amount of pumpkin over time.

I'm not even sure how far Santa Cruz is... maybe 4 hours? We should meet up in San Fran some time! They have the best dog parks! Or SC. I just need to snuggle that lil merle man! ;) Gimme Regis pics, pls?
