Introducing, Valor! He came to FOHA on Saturday. I haven't seen his paperwork yet, so I don't know his backstory, but I can tell you that Val, as I have been calling him, is incredibly sweet and good-natured. And like a dobe, he's a cuddler!

In this pic you can see the club foot. Doesn't seem to bother him any. He will now and then put some weight on it when he wants to try to run, but otherwise he usually just carries it up in the air and walks on three legs.

"Nomz ur fingerz. Nom nomz."

Cuddles!

That's all! :)

OMG, that poor dog!

I've seen a red puppy with that foot before, I wonder if he's the same one.... poor guy. :(

Do you know if he's going to have surgery on it? Is there a possibility of him being released into a breed specific rescue?

I don't know what the plans for Val's healthcare are right now. The vet will see him tomorrow I'm pretty sure. He likely won't be transferred to the doberman rescue. They are usually pretty good about rescuing the dobes in need, which is why FOHA rarely has a dobe, so if they didn't pull this guy from a shelter, they might not have wanted him. Either that or he was an owner surrender directly to FOHA, I will have to pop in the office tomorrow and look at his file.

I wasn't able to look at Val's file today since the vet had it with her today, but I did find out he was pulled from Caroline County animal control. (could be rural VA or WV, not sure).

The vet looked at him today, didn't say anything about his foot except to watch that he wasn't abrading it on the concrete. Oh and she did inform me rather irritatedly that the deformity is called a lobster claw, not a club foot (a club foot is only the type of deformity where the foot ends in a stump. I thought it was all called "club foot" generically. Silly me.)

And I really don't think he's developmentally normal in the brain. He's supposed to be around 9 months old, I think he only looks like he's six months, and a lot of his behavior I would expect from a 12 week old puppy, he just acts very young. I think Val will need a special home.

I would hope the shelter would contact a Doberman rescue, particularly if he's going to need a special home. (although he may just be a big doofus, lol:p)

Unfortunately, FOHA is very possessive of the dogs, so it is unlikely he would be transferred. But after I get a look at Val's file (may not be until this weekend), I will post him over on the doberman forum. I found a savvy home for Yaeger that way (he was a male dobe FOHA had last year I think it was, who definitely needed the knowledgeable home!). Hopefully I will be lucky again.

I've only known Val three days, and I've already fallen ridiculously in love with him.
