With the puppies going from milk (the rawest form there is!) to a RAW diet, it's actually okay! The puppies' systems are completely uninterrupted right now.

There is a "detox" period for adults and dogs that have been on kibble, but for brand new puppies' it's okay.

From what I have read, the more you introduce and the sooner, the better - and these guys have never had one bite of anything but Mom's milk and RAW.

This is my third litter on a 100% RAW diet and my puppies have thrived on it!

Especially on a little puppy stomach. When i recommend the first raw meal, it's chicken only for the first week at least.
For puppies and dogs whose digestive systems have never been damaged by kibble, variety in the beginning is no problem. Even puppies who have only been fed kibble for a few weeks can go straight to a full diet with a variety of protein sources immediately.

When I adopted my 5yo Great Dane, Thor at 12 weeks, he immediately got the same diet as the adult dogs without one single case of diarrhea.

Very interesting. I was hesitant to put the puppy onto it, I figured, less of an immune system.

can I ask for clarification?

For puppies and dogs whose digestive systems have never been damaged by kibble
,

what exact does the kibble do to 'damage" it?

Molly, your vid would not work for me on this computer, but Iam sure they are adorable. :)

Too many protien sources in one meal for their first meal.
ok not touching the 'damaged by kibble comment'

But a puppy who has no previous exp with food will generally do find on all sorts of protein sources. The dekklets had multiple protein sources in the first meals. Adult dogs who's systems have adapted to a single type of food can have issues with variety. But its not only protein sources. Its change in general that is the typical issue.

The body (in humans, horses and dogs for example) will 'anticipate' what is needed to digest a meal. So will have enzymes etc ready to digest what is expected. If the body is very 'specialized' it may have more difficulty switching what it is producing to digest something new. (hence the the 'detox' when even on good foods for long periods of time and then switching)

I am still not comfortable with THAT many protein sources at once. Especially pork. Why not introduce two at a time. There is no way I would EVER feed that many in one sitting. Switch it around each meal, sure, but one sitting, no way.

Well you don't have to be comfortable with how she weans her puppies. Everyone does it differently, there are much worst ways.

I'm comfortable with it, because this is the third time I've done it with zero problems. Furthermore, all of my research says "go head and do it". As soon as I have any problems doing it, I'll switch it up. But until then, full steam ahead :)

It's about cats, but the same info applies to dogs as well.
With all due respect mmorlino, that is not true.. Cats are FAR more complex then dogs when looking at food and digestion and damage. I have a feeling the article would have mentioned it was the same for dogs if it actually were.

I am not comfortable with it. Not once did I tell you not to do it. I am not comfortable with a LOT that you do.
