Toller, Holistic Blend makes a Lamb and Rice that's decent and might be worth a try. It does have other grains in it (millet, barley) and does have salmon a little way down the ingredients list, but very little compares to Cal Nat in it's bare bones formula.
I'll have to look into that one. The store I shop at just got that brand in about a month ago, but I haven't paid much attention to it yet as I didn't have a reason until now.

What about Wellness Simple Solutions? It's a little grain heavy though. Holistic Blends and Nature's logic have some very similar formulas to California Natural too or even Nature's Variety Prairie.
I'll check out the Nature's Logic and the Nature's Variety as well as the Holistic Blends. We tried Wellness, and like most foods, it just went straight through him. I'm not really sure what his food issue is, though. We've cut out different protein sources, have tried grain free and foods with grains, etc. and we can't seem to find a reason as to why he has trouble digesting things. I tried raw as well, but no luck there either! We took him to the vet to make sure nothing was going on health wise to cause these problems, and nothing was found there either. So it's a mystery, and I was thrilled when he finally did well on Cal Nat, but am pretty concerned about that now.

Have you tried Fromm or holistic Selects? Holistic Selects isn't my top food ingredients wise but Beau does horribly on just about anything else. Fromm is also good but a little $$$

The owner of the store I get my food from seemed pretty disgruntled about it as well. I feed Orijen and Honest Kitchen now, with a bit of raw on the side, so it won't directly affect me. I do know a lot of people who feed Innova however, and I'm disappointed for them.

on my cat forum people are freaking out about this too. Some of them were e-mailed a survey about Natura foods and one of the questions was:

"Currently, EVO Red Meat contains five different red meat products. Consideration is being given to adjusting the EVO Red Meat formulation to include two types of red meat protein, Lamb Meal and Beef which will result in a more balanced formula. This change may reduce the level of protein in the food from 42% to as much as 31%. The new EVO Red Meat will have a more balanced distribution of calories from protein, carbohydrate and fat. The formula will remain grain-free."

so clearly they are planning on downgrading and using more calories from carbs and less from meat, great. That's three foods in my rotation gone, I'll be really ticked if they change anything in EVO, the 95% meat canned foods are SO good for them (my cats).

I am sooooooooo ticked off because Innova EVO is my favourite brand of dog and cat food.

The company I work for will be dropping Innova products.. which sucks big time! But quality will most definitely go down the toilet.

I was so disappointed to here this... It really does stink! I wonder if my feed store will continue to carry it, I know thats one of their biggest sellers... Especially CN.

One food that is kinda similar to California Natural (has a bit more ingredients, I believe and isn't AS good! :p) is Mulligan's Stew. They have a Chicken, Lamb and Fish kibbles and Harleigh loves it. We use that for treats, along with EVO (not sure if we'll be using that anymore though:mad:), but she loves any food put in front of her. LOL

Mulligan Stew Pet Food: All Natural Pet Nutrition - Premium Baked Kibble

For me... I'm happy with Acana Grasslands right now and I'll stick with that. Unless, of course, they decide to go out as well. Sigh. Hopefully that will NOT happen though.

Does anyone have trust issues with Diamond? Were they involved in the poisoned dogs a few years back? I would like to go with a company I can totally trust I am leaning towards Origin and Acana but I only have one dealer in the area. If I can trust Wellness and if it is good for my dogs I would go with them since that is readily available in my area.

I think they've learned from what happened, but who knows. Solid Gold is produced by Diamond too.

That leaves Nature's Variety which has both grain free and grain inclusive and raw diets, Acana and Orijen, Go! and Now! by Petcurean, Horizon, Addictions, and Ziwi Peak... Those are what i've come up with so far.

With Champion, call their office and ask plus call or go into pet stores and ask if they can get it because alot of times they likely can bring it in for you. Also look into ordering online.

Nature's Variety had some recalls recently too though.
They've taken care of the problem and installed a high pressure water system to get rid of any potential salmonella since they can't use heat in their raw.

The only thing they don't have now is beef for kibble. They have lost their supplier for beef.

They've also just recently built a brand new factory to produce their kibble plus improved their standards in order to be let into Canada. Which is why up here we had tons of shortages with the kibble just recently.

Well, I did my part and complained. The futility of telling a company "If you sell your company to another I won't buy from your company anymore!" washed over me the whole time. If they sell, it's no skin off their nose if I don't buy it anymore or not - it's P&G's problem then.

Sigh.
I agree. But I also did my part and complained. I don't want to say I whined and did nothing about it.

So sad. Porom gets EVO ferret and does fabulous on it. Finn did fantastic on California Natural when he was on it too, and that's such a great food for allergies. :(

Ugh.

Having recalls doesn't bother me, how a company responds to those recalls is where I start making decisions.

As for Diamond, when they had their recall with the aflatoxin, a number of dogs that were eating Chicken Soup got quite ill with similar symptoms. Tyr was one of them. My vet also treated several others.

I and many other people called Diamond. Their response was that CS was safe because it doesn't have corn in it. I did a lot of research on my own about aflatoxins and learned that while it prefers corn, it will bind to rice. And CS does have rice in it.

If the company had pulled CS, I wouldn't have lost trust in them.

The only thing they don't have now is beef for kibble. They have lost their supplier for beef.
*sigh*
What's that about? They lost their rabbit supplier a few years ago and when they were able to put rabbit instinct out again, it didn't seem to be the same.

Exactly. Thanks for acting :)

Natura's owners are -- or at least, were -- concerned about what their customers had to say. If there's an outside chance they'll listen it's surely worth the cost of a free phone call and the stamp on an e-mail.

All i know is what our distributor rep tells me about it. Something about the majority of beef in the USA is owned by a small number of companies and if you're not on the company's list you're not getting beef.

Dunno really the whole story, but it's kinda a pain in the ass. We don't carry NV kibble, just canned and raw.

I talked to our distributor for Natura products.

Apparently it's all been in the works for quite a while and that the owner of Natura was getting terminally ill. He said that the company allegedly is going to stay in the hands of Natura, but be owned and funded by P&G. It's going to stay in their facilities etc.

However people are starting to get surveys about changing ingredients in the dog and cat foods. There has also been reports of dogs and cats just recently having troubles with the Natura foods like puking, diarrhea, lethargy. Pretty much the same thing that happened with the changed Canidae foods. So something fishy is going on. Watch your ingredient lists closely guys.
