A good tug, and out.

You can play some hind end awareness games.

If your dog is really distracted a watch me is great. If your dog likes to focus on you I wouldn't teach a watch me. In agility there is a fine line between too much handler focus, and not enough.

I second the tug. You'd be amazed how much better my gang works when theres a toy. Sure, they like the treats, and get really excited about them, but there's too much focus on me, and they knock bars, and stuff, while with a toy, I stuff it in my shirt, and go. Then at the end, when they've done it all, they get the toy...

make sure your dog is comfortable working on your right side as well as your left. mushroom is NOT and we have to work extra hard on everything with him on the right.

she loves tug, it's hard to play it with her though because she uses her front paws too lol. we're doing a look at me too because she can get pretty distracted with new situations.

what kind of hind end awareness things should we do? i've noticed on occasion she's a bit clumsy with her back end and sometimes knocks things over.

also, how would i teach out?

If you are going to use tug, then you have to train her correctly to tug with rules. She has to release the second you ask her and she doesn't take the tug unless invited to to grab it. And she keeps her feet on the floor.

We teach them to grab it, then when releasing we have another highly valued tug to trade or a food reward. Also if at anytime she grabs the tug without being invited, the game is over and all toys go away. If she doesn't release, same thing, game over.

How do you end the game if the dog does not release?

I started training agility with my new dog a couple of months ago in puppy classes and this is some of things we do.

Circles-it means running with your dog on your left and right side inner or outer circles. You start with motive-food-toy and fade it until dogs learns to do without motive this exercise.

Teaching a dog to do left and right spin. When he learns this you learn him to do tight circles around obstacles-tree,or later empty wing of jump. This exercise learns dog to go take obstacle in front you, jumps as close as possible around wing and comes back to you.

Teaching a dog to run on straight board-start of training running contacts,or if you plan to do two-on-two-off teaching her to stand with two back legs on something-a food bowl,or a box.

Learning your dog to be total maniac about tug-of-war and balls.

Teaching beg pretty, walk and stand tall on hind legs, also a great one walk on front legs.

Ask someone to keep your dog on leash-do this in fenced in area-run away from him with toy in hand and then call him to you-reward with playing-learns your dog to run after you and builds up motivation.

Learn him with positive motivation to walk on different types of material.

Also you can start by getting your dog comfortable to going to places with a lot of people, dogs, noise.

If you want to compete it is wise to crate train your dog,and learn her to be comfortable in car.

If I remember anything else I will post it later.
