Well last Saturday I went to visit some friends, and there was that guy with that totally adorable black pom... I so want one now :D

Does anyone have some experience with them? I probably won't manage to convince my husband anyway, but I'm still interested.

Sorry !! I wish I've known a Pom I could appreciate. I'm sure they're out there somewhere... I've just never met one.

Hate to say it, but I have had bad experiences with Poms also. Though, there is no doubt in my mind that a better owner would and could have been better for the dog, and I'm sure that the dog acted the way it did because of the irresponsible owners.

Yeah that's pretty much my opinion also. The one I saw on Saturday was extremely friendly. But you guys sum up pretty well my main problem too, which is that I'm not sure it's a breed of dog I would dare getting from a rescue :(

My ex-boyfriends Mom had three poms. The two females were idiots, sorry to say. I don't know how they were raised, but I do know they did train them to do some cute tricks. The oldest female is about 7 now, and still is not house trained. It's hard for me to pass a judgement because I do not know how they were raised/trained ect. The 3rd one, however, is a male. He is a very good dog, no problems there. In my opinion, if you are willing to put real time and effort into a rescue pom it may be well worth it. Otherwise I'd say get from the best breeder you can find, because some of the BYB poms I've seen... well, I honestly think there are some problems those dogs have that can't be helped.

My grandmother on my fathers side has one, named Peanut. He is a very nice dog! And very cute, but she trained and worked with him a lot. He knows how to sneeze, dance, basic obedience, and twirl. It's the only Pom I've ever met.

My best friend had a cream-colored male Pomeranian, and he could be the sweetest dog... to certain people. If either my friend or I picked up Rascal, no problems. But if a stranger tried it, or if my friend's youngest sister began messing with the dog, he would growl and nip.

Then again, I have seen Poms who were just a lovable bundle of fur.

So I guess I'm not much help after all, other than being able to tell you about the one's I've known. :)

Well, I have two pomeranians and they're two of the best things that has ever happened to me. Not only because they are my babies but because they're well trained, loyal, cute, and compassionate. That's with any and everyones dog on this forum or anywhere, if you don't train your dog to go in the direction you would like for him or her to go, they will do their own thing. Like with children, you have to teach them with every aspect of your ability to bring them up to be good citizens. If a child is not directed by their parents, who knows what direction they will go in. Not just because it's a pomeranian will it not be house trained because mine are, not because it's a pomeranian will it do bad things but all dogs must be trained or bad things are going to happen. This is one of the reason dogs are given away because some owner NOT all but some don't take time out to train them. And without training, they can't handle the dog. But is it the dog's fault? And for the people that says they knew a pom that was suppose to be trained and still didn't care for it, it's hard to believe. With those cute little faces what's not to like when the dog is trained and loyal. And if you are mean and hurtful to any dog, they may indeed turn on you. Not saying any here is mean and hurtful but it's a reason behind a dog turning on you. Blame the owner not the breed is my motto.;)

Of course! I sure do hope that you didn't take my post with offense. I do realize that the dog I met was the way it was *because* of its owners. I haven't met a nice, social pom yet, but that is *certainly* due to the fact that there are alot of bad dog owners in my area! ;)

No, I'm sorry if you thought I took your post wrong, I really didn't.;) I just wanted to make a point that dogs always get blamed for what their owners don't teach them. Or get blamed for being mean because of how their owners treated them. That's all. I know first hand how very important it is to socialize all dogs. And in every breed, there will be likes and dislikes. I'm a dog lover! So, I love all the breeds. Can't say I'm not scare of some of them:D but, I love them all.

Poms are spitz breeds, although they have been bred down to be tiny, they were originaly bred to be guard dogs and can be protective or even aggresive, esp if poorly bred. There are many poorly bred poms because many breeders breed for tiny and cute, and don't care about temperament! Also, because they are little, they are often spoiled or their aggresion is tolerated or consiered "cute" because they many are so small that they do not cause much injury. They are high on the list of dog bites reported though. All said, they are smart and cute, but don't spoil them!
